I am working on an old Huffy cruiser and the front sprocket needs to be replaced. It has 48 teeth. Most sprockets available seem to have 44 teeth. Can I use a 44 tooth sprocket instead? I assume this is just a slightly smaller diameter gear.

You MAY have to take a link out of the chain.

Gotta agree, you may have to shorten the chain, but as a plus,it should be a little easier to pedal with a smaller sproket.
