I recently acquired this 1935 Schwinn DD Excelsior frame. I had to give up a lot in trade and cash to get it too. But it's as nice as I've ever seen so I figured it was worth the cost. Not 100% sure of what the build will include, but it will be a Cal cruiser/strandie-style build.

I'm trying to acquire Shimano MX hubs, but if I don't find them soon, I'll use a Bendix Redband rear hub and decide between an ACS, Sunshine, Suzue or SR front hub.

I've got Ukai 7c rims, NOS American-Made Sun MTB rims, Araya 7x, Steel Arayas or steel Sun rims to choose from.

Handlebars are a choice of NOS K&N solid aluminum, TrueTorch flat track-style handlebars, S&M SAC bars or old WEBCO MX handlebars.

Stems are a choice of ALPS double clamp, Huffy double clamp, Winn slant stem, Schwinn stamped Ashtabula stem, Mathews double clamp and a couple of others.

Headset will either be Schwinn or Tange. I've got steel, cromo and aluminum.

The fork will be an 80s KHS fork.

Cranks will depend on what hubs I use. Could be Takagi MX (matching spider), cromo Ashtabula, American-made Redlines, Grafton Topline, which have a Cook Bros look Tioga Taskforce or SR Tubular (matching spider).

Pedals will be NOS Victor rat traps, Suntour XC II, NOS Shark Bite, SR, some NOS Track Certified or NOS Union pedals.

I have a NOS American-made chain but I'm probably gonna save that.

I have Carlisle studded tires, but those will probably be used for a different build too. Likely gonna use Kenda beach-cruiser style tires.

Saddle will be brooks or old springer mattress saddle.

Chainring will be old school SR, S&M, MCS, Sugino snowflake or possibly Takagi MX.

Too many grip choices to list, but I kinda gravitate towards Oury or Oakley 3 types.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on build parts.

Personal opinion

True torch bars
Some double clamp stem
Tubular cranks

I'm trying to get one more Ukai 7c. Right now the set I have I'm planning to use the blue 7cs on another '35 Schwinn DD that doesn't have any OG paint. It's out with True Torch getting some light rehab and some upgrades. That bike will be a copy of this photo I'm posting though I'll keep it single speed. I have the same fork and Grafton Topline cranks to try to copy this bike somewhat while still doing my own thing. That one will probably get Campy Gran Sport hubs. They look like Campy Tipos.

I like your thoughts @Pondo. I have a friend coming over on Monday to talk about all my parts and make final decisions.

Here are a few picks of my '35 Schwinn that's currently at True Torch in SoCal. The chain stays were busted up when I bought it over the internet. I had it shipped from Norther California to SoCal to get the work done. I talked to Matt at True Torch about it yesterday and he sent me these pictures. They fixed the chain stays, added cable guides, brake bosses, dropped the seat-post clamp (having a custom one made), and made the gussets at the seat stays/seat post area, kinda like the Cook Bros. Austin Cruiser.
