    How is everyone doing?

I built all the bikes I could store and ran out of room; I think I have 10, maybe 11. For that reason and for lack of temptation I have been absent for quite some time. I still like the bikes and enjoyed this forum. It helped me immensely. Hope everyone is doing well. It got to 66° here...

    Help with Bendix hub slipping

The hub is in great shape (original model coaster brake in the pic below). It is assembled correctly. I have had it apart twice now. When I have the wheel on the bench it seems to operate correctly. When I install it and try to ride, the pedals spin round and round and occasionally catch...

    Sturmey AWC help needed

I need to replace the axle in mine. It is a little too short on the left side. The axle nut is starting to strip. I only have about 4 threads exposed on that side. I read there is a 175mm axle and a 163mm. Mine is certainly not 175mm, more like 158mm. Anyhow, is anyone knowledgeable...

    Zombie

The living dead. It was almost dead. Still have a ways to go. Hope you notice the fake rust on the chainstays. I sprayed them with olive Rustoleum, then dabbed them with a brush using a mix of red and black paint to create fake rust similar to the rest of the frame. Rear fender mount and...

What is up with page load errors?

Is it just me? I can get them back to back. It also occurs when trying to reply sometimes.

Little girl from Cleveland saves boys life

Here is the frame section replacement pictorial. 1. The kickstand mount is identical. The chainstays on the girls frame are flat while the boys kicks up at the rear. Still the tubing diameter is the same and the section that needs replaced is not dependent on the difference in styles.

    Weak area on frame

I have an old frame with a weak area by the kickstand on the chainstay. It is too rusty to weld (I would never get it cleaned properly). I was thinking of drilling a few holes in it and completely filling the void in the tubing with epoxy. This would make the tubing solid and not likely to...

I think I finally timed something right

I got into bikes in Summer 2008. I finished my last one Fall 2010. Looks like anything worth having is now twice as expensive as that period. Glad I finished. Now I can just enjoy them. Pickerpalooza!

Memory Lane Classics - good though different

Another good experience from MLC. Ordered tires, spokes and a couple of headlights last week. Had them by Thursday. Went to build the wheels Sat AM and I was 5 nipples short. Called MLC, they said they'd get some out. Today I received 6 and due to the holiday they stepped up using UPS...

    Anyone ever used Kenda K130s?

It is a nice tread pattern for a balloon tire. Looks like less rolling resistance than the Chen Shing. Anyone with experience?

    Sanding and sanding and...

sanding. I know there is an end but I been at it for weeks. Fill pits, prime and sand. Repeat. Argh. May be spraying a little color tonight after dinner though.

Shimano SL-3S35 shifter - it works!

I bought one on faith. After fiddling with it and scaring up a few old parts, I got it to work. Here is a pictorial: 1. The shifter is a grip shifter. I am not partial to these but when you cannot find an alternative easily, this was cheap. $17 shipped off ebay with the cable. I bolted it...

    It's hot

Went outside to do a little sanding. I was drenched within 15 minutes. Heat index is 100+. No wind. Bleh. A/C in the car is having a hard time keeping up too.

    And so it begins....

Again! Alot of dents to fix. At least it is all sandblasted and in etch primer. Duplicolor rules, 25% of the cost of 3M.

    Prices going up

Looks like bikes are now in demand. You can't really find anything cheap anymore except by sheer luck. The worst part is that I am not trying to resell any bikes, only some parts from time to time. Has "Pickers" ruined the fun? This isn't a profit hobby for me; I just like having some bikes...

Good neighbor donates bike to me

He called a guy to buy his chipper/shredder. Guy asks if he wants an old bike too. Knowing me, neighbor says sure. This is in my barn when I get home. It's no deluxe model but the fork is great and the raspberry reflector will be useful. Ducktail fenders too!

Drawing a blank, black/gold road bike

I cannot think of the name of that high end black and gold road bike I've seen copied here. It is quite old and has lots of gold striping. Anyone help refresh my memory? Another clue to my quest: it had thick blade-style forks with blunt ends. Very similar to Pashley Guv'nor but not the same.

1952 Monark custom - call it Heavy Metal

The paint is not original; the fender graphics are from my little brain but the frame graphics are original. The colors are Chrysler Inferno Red & Cool Vanilla. I added the springer from a girl's Columbia (which was bent rearward), got fenders courtesy of SimpleMan as well as a smaller 44...

    Getting there

Did a little more assembly today. Tires arrived! The Columbia springer is not nearly as soft as a CWC but it looks better than a Schwinn. Also it needs more travel. I need to see about getting a longer center bolt.

    Need photoshop help

I would like to see this bike with black tires, whitewall tires, red tires and white tires. Anyone care to take a stab at it?
