    Pre-War Hawthorne update

Its been awhile, and this may come as a surprise..my trike is no longer a trike... what do you think? I've never ridden a bike with a springer before...man is it cool! Now I'm hooked!

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

Flames added! Pre-War Hawthorne Trike It's been a long time since I posted...but I finally made some progress. I picked up some 3/16" plasma cut flames from Speedcult Detroit while checking out the Rat Rods displayed at Autorama. They sell this stuff for $10/pound, all kinds of random bits...

    DETROIT AUTORAMA CUSTOM BIKE SHOW

Here are a couple that I got yesterday. There were so many cool bikes, these were the shots that turned out the best/didn't have a person walking into the shot...

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

Re: Pre-War Hawthorne Trike UPDATED 2/10/09 OK everyone, the warm weather in Michigan prompted some work this weekend. I finished the toolbox/cooler/seat. Now all I need to do is clean up the wheels, fenders and bolt it all together. Here's the box with the lid. It should hold my twin sons...

    For HHR owners beware

Hey! I worked on those doors and the assembly machines before the job got shipped to Mexico. If the handle's hinge pin fails, you can just replace the pin with a similar sized bolt/nylock nut. This pin is usually a Nylon (white) or Acetal (black) part that can be replaces with a metal bit of...

    A Strong Signal

I really like the seatpost, very creative. Do you ever have problems with a big seat wanting hinge on the seatpost? I actually had to add a screw through the collar and the tube to keep mine from rotating...

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

Re: Pre-War Hawthorne Trike new pics 2/1/09 I got to work on the cooler/toolbox/bench seat base this weekend. 16x19x17 pine box that has been "vintaged" with a die grinder. I added a sweet label and some Zar stain. Now all I need is for the wife to finish up on the seat that'll act as a lid.

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

Nope, the rear cog didn't get the treatment. I figured if the front sprocket didn't work out as planned, I'd just throw on a standard replacement and just keep peddlin'. The main, rear sprocket will be hidden inside my cooler/toolbox/bench, so nobody should see the mismatch. I'll...

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

I don't know. I like the bench grinder because it is so stable. I think a hand held grinder would shake too much, and I wouldn't have control.

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

I just used my bench grinder. it only took about 1 minute per tooth.

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

Here's the update. So far I've spent $53 of the $100 budget. Suede seat cover, sewn and embroidered by my wife. Assembled for the first time Soon to be the only shiny thing on the bike, everything else will be flat primer red or black I plan to build a crate for the back with a bench...

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

Here are he updates. I painted the frame and trike bit a metallic silver, but it ended up looking like a brand new, store bought bike. SO, I re-sprayed with the red primer, and that's the way it will stay. I took the original sprocket from the trike and ground every other tooth off, so it...

I've got the no work blues

This sucks. The auto industry NEEDS to bounce back soon. I work for one of the Big 3, and at our headquarters building head count has dropped by 10,000 employees in just one year. Detroit is in rough shape, like many other places right now. Keep your heads up, try not to get bummed out, get...

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

I thought someone would point out the MSU flag before the Corvette. Thanks Uncle Stretch, it is a family heirloom that's been around since I was a little kid. I finished the restoration in the mid 90's with my dad, its a mechanical fuel injected 1960 (same body as a '58). Now it sits in a...

    Pre-War Hawthorne Trike

OK, here goes.... Sears and Roebuck woman's 24" that was taken out of service from the Chrysler Warren Truck Assembly Plant. It was used by an electrician as daily transportation within the plant. It came with a large tool box, odometer, and a broken coaster hub assembly. 956 recorded miles...

To Cropduster, thank you for posting the pic...I will learn next time, I promise. I live just north of Detroit, in Shelby Township...I've seen a few other members are from Michigan...glad I'm not alone. The wife thinks I'm crazy. Has anyone been worried about sanding on a bike that was made...
