Well, that fork was way harder than expected.

Made a cleaner out of felt and a 190 skewer.

Felt didn't cut it. Got the master cylinder hones out. Made sure not to get the aluminum/tungsten too hot. That 6086-T6 alloy is some hard stuff.

HAd to take the lower rod apart to get the floating bushing on.

Carefully put it back together and they work.

Put the big one on the back.

Added a chain, and some tubes.

Ir rides now!! That front wheel is crooked. Don't have a fork wrench for the nipples. Have sizes larger and smaller.

That new rear elastomer looks slick!
This is coming back together nicely

Been fiddling with the shifters.

The old stx shifters wouldn't work quite right. 2 of 3 gears on the left, and none on the7 speed side.

I took them apart and cleaned and lubed with some kroil.

How do the shifters work now? Usually if you take them apart and lube them like you did, it breaks down the coagulated grease and allows them to free up.

You're moving right along!

I haven't reassembled them yet. There werent any broken pieces, so I am hopeful.

The left side hits all 3 now. The right doesn't click through yet, so I soaked it overnight in the stuff.

Earlier this morning, I Installed the shift mechanisms with Oddyssey Slic Cable.

Have all 21 gears on the shifters now. The cleanup/relube worked perfectly!

The Sugino cranks that I selected are a light strong drivetrain. But, the bike the set came off of must have been a rocker. Pretty good aim to only destroy teeth on the middle chairing and leave the other two barely wore!

I ground the damage down and took the curls off so I can ride this thing this week. I have a 30tooth on the way to replace this 32 tooth ring.

First up for the polisher:

I see the new chainring is on. How does it mesh with the old ones? Adds a little pizzazz to the old ride!

I agree. I thought about polishing off the black paint, but after seeing it on there, I will leave it be.

After bolting it on, I was worried it was going to skip in berween granny and mid. Looks spaced narrower. But think it's an optical illusion. Extending out from teeth, it's center.

On riding it meshes well. Shifting down and up works almost perfectly. I have to hold the trigger a hair longer until the transition is complete when going mid to high.

I haven't been on the trail for a few months. The old Bomber broke down twice on me, on the mountain in early spring.

This morning I loaded the Proflex into the trunk of the Dart and proceeded up Kyle Canyon to the base of Tin Can.

This is the first real ride on the proflex. About 2 miles down the trail, I came over the top of a rise and caught some soft soil. I had slowed way down, but just fast enough to dump over the bars....

I tightened the front shock down up some more. Part of it was bottoming it out, the other was the tires dig into the soft stuff.

I was a bit more careful of the tire edges after.that. It was a great ride overall. Softer ride than a hard tail. Not anything like the modern rides. It does climb very well. The tires grip rocks, big gravel and hard dirt well.
