I just picked up this bike, Murray built, that I am seeking a build date. Any ideas where I could look this up with the serial number of 20X6 296461 as pictured. The first part seems to indicate that it was sold by Otasco. I would really like to know when it was sold. Thanks in advance for any leads.

That's a very clean Murray!

This shows the X6 on yours as an Otasco, but doesn't help with the year.
Murray went from bottom bracket to dropout serial numbers in 1965, so it's mid to late 60's.

Actually I have a Murray built Otasco Flying O from 63 that has the serial on the drop out, I have seen a lot of early 60's, 60 to 62 Murrays with the serial number there. I am pretty sure they switched from the bb to the dropout in 59/60.

The Flying O' Express pictured is a 1962, that headlight style was manufactured one year only, it is a branded Murray Meteor Flite, for Otasco.

In 1963 they moved to the forward thrust tank style bike.

I have the exact same bike, but I am sadly missing the tank. If anyone has one or knows where I can find one, please let me know.

My Flying-O that I began here with was a 1969 Step Through. Arrowhead dropouts with it on the left side, if that's of any help.

These are hands down one of the most underrated store badged bikes of the 60s Murray lines. Otasco Mfg. Out of Ohio, along with the Murray plant at the time. [MOH- Murray of Ohio]
Often not as strong or decorated as their pricier counterparts, still a solid and beautiful looking bike with a neat scheme that's too often overlooked for how uncommon a Flying O is as a badge.
