A couple of weeks ago the Aussie state of Queensland was being battered by shocking floods. Today the same state is about to get absolutely blasted by Cyclone Yasi, and the thing is massive. For a sense of scale, the satellite imagery of it has been superimposed over a map of the US. The eye itself is a whopping 35km across (21 miles) and they reckon the ‘calm’ may last for an hour as it passes over! The central part of the cyclone is 500km wide (310 miles)
Bean (another member on here) should be okay as he’ll miss the brunt of the storm, but he’s close enough to get some pretty strong winds by the look of it. Hope you’re okay mate!
The storm's scale of destruction is as shocking as it is inevitable. In the map above, the United States from Pennsylvania in the east to Nevada in the west, from Georgia in the south to Canada in the north and well into Mexico would be battered with 300km/h (186mph) winds and up to one metre of rain.
