I had completed this 26 inch 1948-1952 Hawthorne a while back, but wasn't entirely pleased with the outcome, and it is now back under revision. I have a Bendix manually shifted two speed rear wheel that I am rebuilding (the chrome/whitewall wheel to the left), as I thought a multispeed would go nicely on this one. (Some components of the hub were broken, unfortunately, and it needs a little work). I have a tank coming which has the internals to power the headlight, so I will finally have an operational headlight. The tank will be getting a ratty paint treatment to match the frame. I also am configuring a handlebar mounted switch to operate the headlight, which is more easily reached than the switch on the back of the light. The silver painted rim lying de-spoked on the ground is the rim I am lacing the drum brake hub to (center of the rim)- the old silver paint seemed like a nice touch, (other parts have silver over spray from long ago) and it is the wheel that matches the Bendix two speed rear wheel, otherwise I would be using a chrome one. The silver rim actually is chrome underneath, but the chrome isn't so good. The old whitewall tires are my display tires- The larger 2.125 one is a Davis Deluxe, the 1.75 one is a Paragon. both hold air but would be a little scary to ride on. :lol: The tire mounted to the two speed wheel is one of the set i plan to ride on- they are new reproduction tires that I aged using dirty, oily rags and little caution when servicing hubs. :lol: They actually look really natural- well, at least the rear does, I haven't started the front tire yet.
