Fixed! I got a small tack hammer and beat it back into shape. Then I used a BMX seat post grip (I figured this would be tougher than say a mtb grip) to pull it all back together the last little bit. Thanks again for all your help guys.

That's it - though only by 1mm or so all round (it just looks like it has stretched out down to an inch or so below the top of the tube). I'm not sure whether to put the seat post in and give it a bloody good hammering or whether to buy some sort of clamp and try to tighten it all back in line...

I should have been clearer but it isn't so much that the tube has a clean bend, more that the end of the tube has stretched out so big that I can't get the seat post clamp over the top anymore. The bike is a chopper so there is only a couple of inches of tube before you hit the frame proper...

The title says it all really. I had the seat too high (not enough post in the tube) and the top of the tube is bent. It isn't out by a massive amount (a couple of mm all round). I've tried bending it back with a spanner but the grip still won't quite fit over it. I'm thinking the best bet is...

All done yesterday - actually a lot simpler than I expected. The key is to remove the stem and the top plate (crown?) - the rest then just slides off the head tube.

Does anyone know how easy this is for a beginner? I need to get them off to get the bike to FBI in a few weeks but literally do not know where to start. Links to online guides particularly appreciated! Thanks in advance guys.

Just to add my 2 pence worth - my partner and I both own bikes from XYZ and really rate them. We paid about $120 a bike from memory and had them shipped to the UK a year or so ago. Even in our relatively harsh climate they've held up well. The chrome has some very light surface rust but other...
