Picking up an older Electra Straight 8

13 mile ride today, now sipping IPA's. Rode nice and no flats!

Picking up an older Electra Straight 8

Okay good deal. Picked it up earlier today, for 80 bucks off of Facebook marketplace. I happened to catch it in the first hour, 29 minutes to be exact. It cleaned up VERY well, and still has the mold flashing on the middle of the tire tread. Hardly ridden at all. This is the before dusty pic.

Picking up an older Electra Straight 8

I noticed the new models have fenders. I cannot remember if they always had fenders? This is 24x3 tires front and rear. 3 speed, no front brake, and normal fork not triple tree.

Larger front wheel on Giant Stiletto??

Got some 3/8" to 14mm washers, and put a 1.5 Pasela tourguard on another front wheel. MUCH better. One side of the original wheel wasn't even tightened, probably from the bike shop.

Larger front wheel on Giant Stiletto??

Got to get some 14mm to 3/8's axle adaptor washers though.

Larger front wheel on Giant Stiletto??

I will probably use a 1.5 tire or maybe a 1.75. With the smaller size, and a smooth tread, it might not even rub at all.

Larger front wheel on Giant Stiletto??

NICE!! It worked!! With the angle of my foot on the pedals, the tread just barely grazed the bottom of my toe. There was no side interference, only the bottom of the shoe. I used a QR mtb wheel just to try it. I can live with a little rub, if it means that 20 inch is gone! It looks TEN times...

Larger front wheel on Giant Stiletto??

The lady said they priced it so low to begin with, since the rear tire was flat... I brought it home, pulled the piece of metal out of the tire, replaced the tube, and voila. I think I will just go around to pawn shops letting the air out of tires for a discount, haha! Nah, it was strange I...

Larger front wheel on Giant Stiletto??

Will I run into toe overlap (pedals hitting front tire) if I put a larger front wheel on this bike? When these first came out I was thinking they were pretty cool, but the 20 inch front wheel was a huge fail in my book. The bottom line of the frame isn't level, which should have been a no go...

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

Worksman is having the same problem apparently. It kind of looks like they are using the silver horizontal dropout washer, which ends up with the same problem, shifting assembly pointing at the sky. http://www.worksmancycles.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/media/2014/redfolder.jpg

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

Well, with all of the bikes built here, many of which based on Worksman frames, I guess no one has ever done this. Not interested in hearing any more about three speeds, just trying to get my shifting assembly to point straight ahead. Also if the shifting assembly was pointed straight ahead...

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

I may modify the dropouts if all else fails. I would cut these off, cut out a set of my own, then mig weld them in.

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

Nah, I just built the wheel with the hub in it. I refuse to give up now. Not my first 7 speed setup either, just the first with these odd dropouts. I also view most 3 speeds as two speeds. Most of the older ones require almost superhuman endurance to sustain 3rd gear for any length of time...

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

My dropouts look about the same angle as the Schwinn but flipped 180 degrees. They have keyed washers to fit a horizontal, but not a down slanted.

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

Ive read all that and none of it applies to a rear facing slanted dropout. There are multiple keyed washers available but I'd rather not buy 5-6 sets only to find none of them fit. The brake arm is movable to a degree(no pun intended, lol) but the shifting mechanism will only fit where the...

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

This will give a good idea of the predicament I have put myself in, by deciding to use this hub.

Nexus Inter 7 speed in a Worksman frame?

I am humming right along with my Klunker build, which I am using a Worksman M2600(large) frame. I am having an issue with the Nexus hub though? The frame has rear facing dropouts that slant downwards, and it's driving me nuts trying to pick the right non turn washers for it. When the shifting...

Okay, can someone shed some light on which of the Nexus keyed washers will fit the dropouts like the red frame? They do not have a rear slanted drop on the chart at all? I guess I could buy a set of front slanted washers and use them on opposite sides, or would that even work?

And it now has a vintage fork. I ordered a bunch of parts including shifter, rear shifting unit, fork clamp to hold the front hub arm on the Sturmey Archer/ I should be done building in another week, but then teardown and paint. Color is still undecided.

More progress pics. Got the back wheel built and a little larger dark skinwall Continental Town and Country. Don't worry I will go 2. to 2.2 later. I am tempted to paint it a rootbeer kind of brown metallic. Maybe line the lugs with orange. I have to keep reminding myself red cranks are going on...
