As for the construction of the Trimble, I really have no idea how it's put together, but I'm guessing magic played a role. I think there's a support/anchor of some type in the carbon fiber

I don't know the term y brake, but those are cantilevers. They look like old Mafacs, I know Charlie and Gary liked them on their klunkers

I could see the y brake thing as a reference to the brake cable, it looks like an inverted Y when the straddle is connected

That's a Horny Toad, records indicate only 9 made in total, this is the only one in this style. The picture was taken at one of the Test of Metal races at Whistler in the 90's.

Holy smokes that's a build. The components on there... Can't even imagine what a prototype Ringlé hub would fetch, let alone one with the provenance that Greg added. Very nice history in there too, great to hear a top level rider's memories of the old days. Laughed at him not getting paid by Shimano, so wouldn't use the shifters, but headset, casette, bottom bracket, pedals and both derailleurs all are Shimano. Says something about the quality of Deore, almost essential back then.

86 ? mesh shirts and neon ocean Pacific shorts with the classic chuck taylor and don't forget the classic white socks with blue and yellow stripes
