    SHOW US YOUR KLUNKERZ

I wish I had fabrication and design skills like many of the members here. I don't. But I can buy and bolt parts as good as the next guy! Here's some shots of the circa 1946 Packard Klunker I completed this weekend. The cheap dept. store MTB rims were found curbside on trash day, shod with...

V Brakes posts for a Klunker

Ah, thanks guys. You got me looking in all the right places now. If my brain weren't such a sieve I'd have recalled that thread about the split collar clamps. Everything one needs to know is in there! Right now I'm leaning towards the clamp-on solution, for a cleaner look. BTW, I have another...

V Brakes posts for a Klunker

Hello group - First off, I realize this topic has likely been discussed at length many times on here. I just spent a frustrating hour searching old posts in vain. Too many "view topic" links are dead! Anyway, i am in the midst of a Klunker ('47 Packard badged DX) build. I have a nice set of...

MAG Wheels..... How can I get the Hop out??

From the photo it looks like the wheels use a sealed bearing cartridge pressed into the hub? And your photo shows this hub area to be slightly out of round? Does the bearing fit tightly in the hub, or is there some radial play? That would cause the whole wheel to wobble. From what I can see...

    Bottom Bracket Conversion Woes

Looks like I'm the only one responding to my own thread. That's OK, as I've been busy doing what I probably should have done in the first place before posting here. That is - scouring the web for all the info i can find regarding these bottom bracket adapters. And you know what? It ain't...

I saw a thread on one of the BMX forums that said they were junk...

    Bottom Bracket Conversion Woes

Thanks guys for your responses, Yeah, for a semi-panicked minute that was my thought too, but I'm commited to the three piece crank because it is really part of the klunker style and look I want to duplicate. Besides that, I'm using an internal gear rear hub with a chain line that would be...

    Bottom Bracket Conversion Woes

I am building a klunker replica of sorts from an old Colson frame. I jumped right in with both feet and bought the first american to euro bottom bracket adapter I found on Amazon. Well, it turns out that was a big mistake. With the old bearing cups removed, the shell on this frame is about 63mm...

And Now For Something Completely Different....

Hey Mr. Rat Rod - Thanks for your latest posting on the homepage! I had to watch the video twice - not for the skating but for the cool tuneage. I know that kind of stuff's not everyone's bag, but I dig it. I googled the artist's name and found his website http://www.richardhoughten.com/. More...

Is there a way to straighten bent pedals?

Sorry I'm a couple days late, but thought this info could add a little more to this thread. I saw a clever tool at the Ann Arbor - Saline swap on Sunday. Had no idea at first what I was looking at. It was solid steel bar about 7/8" or 1" diameter, 18" long, with holes threaded for 1/2" on one...

    New Departure Model D Noise

My limited knowledge and experience are working against me here, thats why I'm so grateful to all who have responded, especialy crassly, who is sending me a new transfer spring. I think I am also in agreement that the cone is sticking in the hub taper. but will definately explore the backwards...

    New Departure Model D Noise

Thanks for the checklis, axsepul. The chain is brand new (hopefully not messed up), chain ring is slightly bent, maybe 1/16 sideways runout as it rotates. BB is good and tight. I do think my rear wheel is cocked a little off to one side, so I will be straightening that out ASAP. To my ear...
