Where in Indiana are you?

I put my 47 Schwinn back together and the brakes don't work. How hard is it to get them working again? Any tips?

Thanks! just curious, what part of the kickstand are you talking about being straight, not tapered?

Thanks for the responses. It does have a welded kickstand. Here's some more pics if it could help, thanks. And the newspaper machine I had to rescue from a dumpster. I had a sore back the next day :D . Someone painted over the factory paint, but under the facory paint there's red.

I got this Schwinn from a friend and don' know what year or kind it is. From the research I've done i think it's pre '48. The serial number is B86567

I'm from Northwest Indiana and just started working on my first bike. I need help identifying it. I know it's an old Schwinn, from the research I've done i think it's pre '48. I want to post pictures but can't figure out how. Help on both things would be appreciated.
