    Finished - Finally! - Maybe...

Thanks for the comments. It was a sunny day, so the rims and whitewalls really glare. I'm not sure why I got so anal, but I wanted every fleck of paint off the frame. It looked so good, I thought about just clearcoating it, but decided to paint my first project. I wasn't so concerned on the...

    Finished - Finally! - Maybe...

Back in the beginning of the year, I posted this bike in my intro. It was working when I got it, but this photo showed the disassembled and stripped front wheel. This started mostly as a 64 Schwinn Hornet. The rims definitely weren't original and they are pretty beat. It is single speed (Bendix...

    Big Pink Tandem

Better yet, I could go "Kill Bill" style and call it the "***** Wagon"! Somehow I don't think the wife, my 11 yo son, or 8 yo daughter would appreciate the cinematic reference. As for riding pics, we have a few inches of snow on the ground, so it will be a while longer.

    Big Pink Tandem

I'm fairly sure that they were intended just for shipping purposed, but I can still see the use. Well that makes a lot more sense!

I think those are just axle covers so you don't catch your leg on the rear axle (they're on both sides). I think I vaguely remember those from when I was 10 and thinking they were cool then. The pink paint will last longer than those will. :D

    Big Pink Tandem

I think I lucked out - other than it's stinkin' pink! Otherwise only the rear wheel needs to be retrued, but is rideable.

    Big Pink Tandem

So I saw this on CL the other day and decided to ignore it because I'm in the middle of my schwinn project. Then my wife and I were talking about last summer when I rented a tandem with my son and she said "it'd be nice to have a tandem." (nice to have a wife that is encouraging a new...

    Hoarding vs. Collecting

Quite honestly, I think flipping bikes is also providing a service. You take a bike of little value and then turn it around into something of value to someone. Most of the time that person doesn't have the knowledge, time, or skills to do it themselves. They are now able to get a unique bike...

I'll get on that by tomorrow and repost. Thanks for the help! I also will post in another section to get some opinions on paint, etc. Mike

    JUST A FEW SHIRTS LEFT...

I've found in my travels that European is 1 size larger for the same "size". For example I wear a US XL, but definitely have to go XXL in Europe.

    Intro - mcbike

Here is a pic. When I got it, it was rideable and cool in its own right. I'm interested in cleaning it up, giving it a little pop and cool factor, but not to go crazy on my first rebuild (That's right, I'm planning more!). In this case, you can see the front rim has been stripped clean. Since...

    Intro - mcbike

Hello! I originally learned about this site after buying a 64 Schwinn on ebay that was listed as a Rat Rod and I started searching. My 11 year old son loves riding it as much as I do. After lurking on the site, I've now started stripping it down to refinish. Love the great ideas I've seen and...
