So i traded some leftover parts from my other Polish bikes that I already built/tore down/repaired with a kid named Alan from nearby City of Góra Kalwaria. It was a nice nostalgia trip for me, since he's already into restoring/building bikes, and he's in simmilar age as I started my hobby (like 13 or so). He also found a bike that I always wanted at a local junkyard. So i bought it from him, packed it to my tiny Daewoo, and drove today to my workshop. It is/was/should be a 24" wheel folder made by Romet in 1984 that went by the name Jubilat(eng - Birthday Boy) - a "bigger brother" of the super popular Wigry. When new it should look kinda like this one: And on my way to the shop I figured out that I might as well make it into Muscle Bike for the Build-Off (You don't see a lot of those right? The only one I found were Rollfast bikes) Still need to figure out a name for this one, but I hope it will come to me (or maybe some of you will have a cool suggestion ) So back to the menu. Got it to my workshop, fitted it into a stand... ....and by that time I realised that this is by far the worst bike that ever went trough my hands, like even junkyard-bad is not the proper way to describe this one... It's covered in tons of paint, EVERYWHERE, like literally every part that was made of any kind of steel (or plastic) was at least once painted. Wheels, stem, steering bar (mismatched wheels to be precise) painted silver, righ onto the rust, and everything else just painted over a milion times. Yeah, even the plastic parts weren't saved... Also almost everything is wobbly - the wheels, headset, pedals, I thought that the only not wobbly part is the BB, and yes - not wobbly, but when I turned it it stops after a half turn, and when you push it it makes a sound like something is cracking inside it... Literally everything that isn't rusted-shut and won't move from tons of layers of paint, or rust, came apart in pieces. Generator - stuck shut, Steereing Bar - stuck on rust (Actually it took me some time to remove it), Stem - rust shut, Seat post - came out after 30min of using the Raw Slav Muscle Power, Front Fender - rust shut, Rear Fender - Rust Shut, Rack - you guessed it - rust shut, Wedge from the BB Axle - Rust shut, Headset Nuts - rust shut... The chain... oh, don't even get me started on that one... I haven't seen a sprocket so eaten up my whole life... The rear reflector is CCCP made, and it was one of the few parts that came of easily... One thing is good - people on the countryside are lazy, so they didn't paint it inside, so after a while, when it folded I was amazed to see the original color inside - deep blue I think. So after half a day fighting with all my power, using half a can of WD-40 the score is Spike 0:1 Jubilat... Tommorow I will bring a torch with me - it can't be stuck if it's liquid, right?
