Patch job done without duct tape. I'll touch up the fresh wood cuts with something to blend in with the old surfaces. Not worrying about getting the bed floor dirty, it's been one of my work surfaces. It'll get some stain, heck might even paint the beads to simulate metal strips common to old pickup beds.

Patch reveal, nothing to hide, pride is overrated. Wing nuts will allow easy removal of racks in order to get bed floor panel out.

Looks good @MazdaFlyer . It's funny, I always keep looking at these builds, imagining them in their current 'rat-ina' state as the finished product. Then I realize most of you guys will be painting yours....

IF you did leave it like it is, I found a MinWax stain that I really like and used on the fenders and wood insert on Shelby Flyer Woody. It's called 'Weathered Oak'. Creates a old faded gray barn wood look out of new lumber. That deck of your wagon would look great in that, nice contrast to the exceptional patina of the box and the staves as they are.

I think it gives it character as well.
I also think every piece of wood "art" needs character, doesn't matter if it's a coffee table or wagon; everything should have a flaw to be perfect.

I'm I the only one that thinks your 'oops' adds 'character' or dare I say 'patina' to the build?

Thanks, had a thought off marking the oops on the other side...

Ratters: Be aware that the super-juice Linseed Oil is my #1 material for restoring old wood surfaces on antique furniture paint or no paint. It really makes the wood pop.(and metal as we know!)
Use a piece of discarded material 1st, and douse(wet)it heavily with L-Oil. Now hand-sand it while wet into the peeling paint/wood tester with a Wet/Dry 100 to 180 grit paper. 3M makes the best s-paper(waterproof black). Wipe clean immediately and repeat as needed. It will darken the wood a bit, brighten up any paint colors, feed/seal the porous wood from weather, and give it a nice smooth feel. Two coats is best.
OJ- I really like the "Early American" minwax stain as well. Very subtle. ...........skpc

So @GuitarlCarl , is Romanesque enough for you? :wink1:

Well it's at least....Roam-in the woods.....

Playing with an old saw blade I got years ago on the 'bay and a stencil I made this morning. Paint is leftover Rust-O Satin Fossil from BO-11 One-Liner.

I added a second coat of orange to the outer rear rims...looked good until the paint blistered and formed wrinkles. The first coat had cured for 48+ hours per RO instructions. I've never had that happen before. Wondering if it's bad paint or a reaction with what ever they use in China on the wheels?
Anyway I decided to strip it off while still wet. It all came off pretty easy with Klean Strip yesterday. Today I sanded and bronze wooled it with lacquer thinner, shot primer this time and added a couple of coats of paint. They look good so far. Anyway this is a heads up if you try overpainting on anything from China, beware.

well i guess late is better then never so here is my progress and ideas i am coming up with first off the way want to mount the wheels is not going to function as far as turning so i am trying to figure out how to make a skateboard truck style turning where you lean the wagon and it will turn. i am goig to attempt a brake wagon setup and i want to add handlebars to the pull handle so it could be ridden down hills lots of planning, thinking and trial and error is to come im sure but we shall see what i come up with here is my current progress pictures last picture is what i had begun with except it was rusty crusty and fell apart literally so back to square one not sure what to call it yet but i will come up with a name eventually

Got my 'crest' mounted on the Char-iot of Fire-wood....
Bolt, nut, washers and a lamp part. Might have to rust up that brass a bit.

Now, what about those two mounting holes on the angle iron spanning the front?

My wife thinks I should make some kind of 'torch' or device that makes fire....?!

Or should it be a tool mount?

That saw blade could hurt someone accidentally if carelessly working around the wood hauler. Perhaps lower it enough to limit its toothy danger. Exposed flesh will lose that battle.:acute:
Maybe even mount one outside edge on the bucket rim, and angle it out/forward/down with a steel bracket holding it up? Lights or tool holders sounds great for the brackets. Axe profiles in Red maybe?(bloody)

First you're worried about somebody cutting themselves on the saw blade, and next you want the ax silhouettes in 'bloody' red?? :21:

I wanted this chariot to evoke danger and fear. Looks like I met my goals.
