Hey all… I’m hoping to find everyone happy and healthy…
What a summer!!! I’ve been so busy!!!
Got a new job (that’s short for “just over broke”)….
Been working to many hours to play with my bikes…
I had really thought I would sit this one out…
But then it happened…
I went to a swap meet July 27 08…
I picked up an old skip tooth bike, a bunch of parts,
and two old frames…
I had some tires mounted on some rims…
I threw the back one in the frame…
Then went and found a fork…
And some handle bars…
And a seat…
Before I knew it I had a mock up…

But to use this frame with the freewheel
I needed brakes
Cut… Chop… Silver Solder…

I’ve got brakes…
Guess I add some braise on shifters and some cable stops

juggernaut107.jpg

Need a derailer hanger to use the derailer I wanted
Cut… Chop… Silver Solder…

The frame is ready to be painted…

On goes the primer

wow...Nice job on the braising. How did you go about finding the position for the studs?

FAT and FAST!...........Gonna be nice! 8)

Thanks for the good reviews so far…

My bike building rules are as follows…
1… Start by throwing the rules of conformity out the window…
2… See what I’ve got laying around…
3… Deal with problems and issues as they crop up…
4… Get a little to very creative…
5… And have fun…

Gotta say though… I got in a hurry…
I decided to clear coat the frame and fork….
I did allow the three day dry time on the black spray bomb
with the frame… turned out great…
However the fork… lets just say it got a crinkle finish…
Primed and painted it Tuesday…
Went to clear coat it Wednesday
As I’m spraying the clear all of a sudden the black
just starts to bubble and pucker…
RATS… guess I’ll need to strip and paint it again…
If the whole fork had crinkled I might have left it…
Almost looked neat
Oh well… deep breath and sigh…

To 37fleetwood
The paint stand came with the house
My parents told me that it was called a clothesline…
Mom said they would wash clothes and then hang them out side to dry…
Sounds pretty archaic to me…lol
The 26 x 2.5 hookworm downhill tires give the fenders that
Chopped and tubbed muscle car look…
Gotta say I like the big over sized tires…

To cman
As far as the brake studs go…
I started by taking them apart…
Then cutting them off the donor frame…
I left a square piece of metal under the stud…
Then I reassembled the brakes…
With the tire mounted in the frame…
I checked for position of the shoe to the rim and marked the frame…
Then disassembled the brakes again…
Eye balled them to be level…
Held them with a small set of vice grips and silver soldered in place…
Silver soldering is real similar to brass braising…
But with silver soldering you get better penetration of filler metal
And not sure but think it may be a stronger braise…

To kota, markm,and sensor
I hope she is as fast as she looks...
