Howdy I’m new. I read the rules for this build off and as I was going to rebuild this thing I thought I might as well enter the contest. This is a 1967 Schwinn Typhoon, I believe, as it came with the 2 speed which was taken apart and now long gone and it doesn’t have the tank braze-ons like the Panther and it’s Coppertone. Anyway, I wanted to purchase a BMX cruiser and the wife was like why do you want to spend $700+ on a new bike you have bikes... So in order to fulfill my desire to go to the jump track with my 5 year old not on my Santa Cruz Heckler I decided to make this thing a BMX style jumper. I think the parts I have coming exceed what I would have spent on that OM Flyer, oh well! This is going to be awesome and it’s American steel. When I can I’m buying American made stuff unless I can’t. Like the Landing Gear forks, US made SE forks are crazy expensive so I got the Asian Variant from Planet BMX. I found some NOS Profile cranks for less than a new pair so that’s awesome! I’m probably just going to sand off the rust and clear coat then again it hasn’t been washed in over 25 years so why start now. As the parts come I’ll post new photos. As you can see I’ve already replaced the Schwinn headset with what to me was Holy Grail as a kid... A TANGESEIKI sealed an anodized one. Red accents will be the name of the game on this thing. Thanks for looking!

Oh, the Brooks Saddle is also new. The forks and wheels are, to those in the know, clearly unoriginal but this is how I’ve ridden this thing for years.

On my wish list is a Coppertone Schwinn . No washing needed .
I have always liked them too! My buddy has a Schwinn Corvette in Coppertone with all of the original parts including the tires. It’s got a good coat of coastal rust but it’s amazing!

I can’t wait to start getting the parts! My last BMX bike was the 1983 Schwinn Predator Team”Z” I got for Christmas when I was 8!

I raced Predators in 85 and 86! I'd like another someday

That springer has a fine layer of crustina! I'd gladly put it on one of my bikes! Not appropriate for your purposes though ;)

Welcome to the best custom vintage rat rod bike site on the internet! We have a ton of fun on here during the build offs. Keep the step by step process posts and photos coming!
Cool start, solid Schwinn frame. I had a '64 Typhoon, brand new, as a 9 yr old kid. Yeah, I was tall.
RaT oN~!

h ;)
Ha! Free with local pick up in Morro Bay! Many years ago I cut the spring bolt so I could crank it down to rake out the front end it offers no real spring and I offered it to HandyDandy something or other for his rustina type build; however, he hasn’t replied so if you really want it you can have it just pay shipping.

i sold my coppertone frame because im not a big scwhinn guy, then i built it for the friend who purchased it and i must say with just a good scrub it shined up pretty nice on the paint that was left! so you have a cool color and your building something with a bmx look. ill certainly follow along.

With that parts list. This will be one stacked Schwinn. Post up details, this'll be a good build. Straight fork makes alot of difference in the handling. See how you like the fit once its built.

I See the plan...All those parts will swap over to a different frame when one pops up  in a few years.

Welcome to RRB and the madness and fun of the build off!
Can't go wrong with a coppertone as your base.
Have fun!!!

A little parts porn. I’ve been sitting on a Squid Seiner in Moss Landing since Monday waiting to install a freshly rebuilt John Deere 6.8L powertech into our skiff. So the old dirt bike has been on the back burner. The wife was nice enough to take some photos for me to share with y’all. I’d like to say that’s an actual Suntour stem alas it’s a repop made by BlackOps and the Landing Gear fork is new. So there you go!
