Banana hanger grills are so 1934.....

I discovered these "Retro Ryder Headsets" which are 1 1/8 headsets that have had the bearing cups machined down to fit inside of older 1" headtubes. Basically they have been machined from a 34mm insertion diameter to a 32.5mm.

That's good to know. Was going to suggest turning down some 1 1/8 cups. Had no idea there was a ready made solution.

That Silver King mockup is so tantalizing. You're such a tease.

Hope you do something cool with that banana hanger. It's interesting.

Who else is old enough that this reminds them of a milk truck? :bigboss:
They hotrod anything these days. You could haul around your bikes in this old milk truck.

Small work, but nedded. Replaced the seat chassis bolts with grade 8 ones.

Actually used the Bell wrench for the first time. Couldn't find a second 13mm wrench or socket.

Peter approves.
Haven't you heard?
Everone is talking about it.
The bird is the word.

Some may have noticed the Nirve Mooneyes seat on the pond ledge. Obviously I won't be putting it on this build, but earlier this week I was looking at it in my office, and thought, I wonder if I can create that look on my banana seat?

So I brought it home and just kinda stared at it with the nanner and the bike from different angles and see if the idea worked for the build or not.

I like it enough to try some mockups tomorrow, so I headed out to wally world for some crafty yellow mockup stuff.

Found this yellow satin costume fabric swatch so I can actually us it as a test upholstery for color. It was only $3. Obviously it won't be the final cover for the nanner. The googly eyes were on the same crafty aisle. I just couldn't resist getting a goofy pic with them. NO, I DID NOT BUY THE EYES

This is gonna be fun to start mocking up tomorrow. Hopefully it's as cool an idea as I think if is.

I am thinking of using this 3.5x2.2 Mooneyes patch to mimic the circular Mooneyes on the Nirve saddle.

It would have perfect dimensions for the high bucket seat back of this nanner.

Still waiting on the headset, but I put the fork back on today. I had bent the butterfly kickstand before to be flatter for the girvin setup. I need to bend it back straighter to be right for the monark fork.

Moon fun time today.
Cut a section of the yellow satin costume fabric.

Taped it up underneath to make it snug enough to work with.

Mimicked the size of the Mooneyes patch that I will order.

Just roughly drew it with a Sharpie and added some white electrical tape for the eyes. Very crude copy, but good enough for a mockup placeholder.

Then I used the electrical tape to start mocking up the black sweeping stripe on the seat.

Got one side done and was pleased with the results.

Taped up the other side and blended the upper part of the tapered stripe a little wider too.

:21: ...So you just took them? Shame.:21:

Okay gang. Many people have been wondering about the color/finish of this build from the beginning (including me). As I said before, I haven't had any vibe for a color on SteamRoller this entire time. Once, I looked over at the Mooneyes seat at my office this week and my brain started swirling around about doing the nanner that way, my mind naturally keyed off of that and thinking what would work with the seat idea.

Because of SaltHammer, I'm already very familiar with a lot of the Mooneyes vehicles and bikes that people have done around the world. A great deal of those (not all) have been primarily yellow with some black or white accents. I thought about mostly yellow, but it just wasn't grabbing me.

This also isn't my first rodeo with a twin tube style frame (Flexy, starsNbars, VerBoten). I decided to try accentuating the twin top and twin down tubes by painting the inside half of the tubes a different color than the outside half.

So I got enough colored electrical tape to mock up my paint scheme idea with it. Yellow on the inside half and black on the outside half. And with the headtube and a portion of the front of the tubes to be all yellow sweeping around to the inside of the tubes.

Here is my "tape paint" paint scheme test. I just did the top tubes, head tube, and downtube for the test. When it comes time for paint the rest of the bike would be done the same way.

Let's see, last year's bike was the Sizzler. Maybe this year's is the 'Stinger'. :wondering: :wink1:

I'll noodle on this scheme for a while. I think I like it though. It really accents the twin tubes from different angles.

It looks like a black bike from the side, and even the angled front view. But it looks more yellow from the angled rear view or top view.

Here are some more views and details.
