I am started out with the 1959 Sears Flightliner pictured here:

And some parts from his sister:

These bikes were bought in Roswell New Mexico, on Presidents Day weekend. I have been saving parts and lookin for ideas since then.

Here is the bike as it sits the first day of the build off:

This sprocket and rat-trap might make it on the bike, i am still kinda feelin it out:

Re: Raceliner? (name pending)

Nice rack on the girls spaceliner! Sorry, I couldn't resist! Looks like you have a great start on the build. I'm kind of a spaceliner freak myself. Always wanted a chrome one. I need to get off this computer & get busy, but there are so many cool projects in the works, I can't stop checking them out! Can't wait to see the finished project! 8)

Re: Raceliner? (name pending)

Raceliner's a fine name. I'm looking forward to what you do with this one; I've built a bike with that frame, painted rather than chrome, and a ladies' version for my wife which did have a chrome frame.

Re: Raceliner? (name pending) Update 1 (mock-up)

Well I decided to go for the faux-patina look, I completely stripped the bike, primered, painted yellow, painted green, painted black, final coated in yellow.

Re: Raceliner? (name pending) Update 1 (mock-up)

I decided I wanna push bi bike out of my comfort zone so I decided to fabricate a seat, pics follow:

I cut out a basic template of the idea in my head.

Set it on the bike to see how she looks.

I took a router to the edges.

Re: Raceliner? (name pending) Update 1 (mock-up)

You've got some awesome fabricating goin on there. Lookin good! 8)

Re: Raceliner? (name pending) Update part Deux

Without givin away too much tonight the wood part on top of the metal will be in black leather and the metal part will be fake patina'd like the yell parts. this seat is gonna have a suspension on her, made of trampoline springs. I am letting that evil voice in my head guide me. I am hopin that this seat is gonna compliment the rack not replace or overtake it, but the voices in my head don't mind collateral damage.

Re: Raceliner? (name pending) Update part Deux

Got some more done today.

I cut off at the blue line.

P5240024.jpg

Here is a mock up.

P5240026.jpg

Spaced it out as needed.

P5240027.jpg

I used some spring to get the right look.

P5240029.jpg

P5240031.jpg

I am still thinking about where to anchor the seat.

Here is how she looked at the end of the day.

I had to take a build-off break and finish upholstering my Vomit Comet!!

Re: Raceliner? (name pending) Update part Deux

After being gone a while due to a road trip and health issues imma have to push to get this bike done, but I thrive on the pressure, here is the progress so far:

I plan to replicate the look of the old 'liner rack in the seat. So i made a jig to bend rod to the shape of the rack supports.

P6060026.jpg

First couple bends:

P6060028.jpg

The bend back:

P6060029.jpg

And the seat is starting to take shape! (I know a lil lop-sided)

P6060030.jpg

Oh, did i mention I saw Kota's build and felt the need to step it up? Any who, this seat will have suspension!!!
