I got a call last night to go look at some old bikes a guy had for sale. He said the guy was older and was wanting $20 - $50 for the bikes, and he had “ a lot of those old bikes like you like”. Thinking I might be going to look at junk, I went with tempered expectations. 27 bikes later, I’m happy I went and looked!
He had pretty good stuff, and I ended buying the whole lot for less per bike than the low price, so I thought I did pretty good.

The list is as follows:

I haven’t cleaned any of them up yet, but I think some of them will clean up quite nice.

J washed up a couple of the less patina’d ones. The Murray 24” has had a repaint but it’s an old one, and shows pretty well though. I got a pic of the tandem also. All of these my kids are more excited about riding that one together than any of the others!

I’m digging this fat tube, single bar, camelback looking, fat fendered single bar Rollfast! This thing has FAT fenders - early 50’s Columbia fat. The frame tubes are a large diameter also. I’m guessing this might have been newsboy bike or something, because I think it’s a post Snyder built bike, but fat tires should have been long gone by then. It’s just a fat, stocky looking bike. I’m going to explore if just how fat of tire I can fit in these fenders at some point.

This little Murray is probably the cleanest one.

This one has the old repaint job, but is all there.

This Huffy is pretty nice, but missing the chainguard and rear fender. That tells me it wants to be a muscle bike build! ;)

The kids favorite. They are literally giving me no choice but to throw some tires on it and a better front seat! :)

After a little research, it seems the red Rollfast is In fact Columbia built, and was basically the same bike that was the predecessor to the Newsboy Special. Columbia called their model “Big Mac”

Yes it is, and yes it does! There’s a lot of the same parts on them for sure.

You know what eye I'm using when looking at that pile of bikes, and aside from an easy choice like the Huffy, when I see this Rollfast, I see a 26/22 Rollfast Top Drag 200. The frame is shorter, and doesn't have that "sweep" on the down tube. Also, finding the right parts would be exceedingly difficult. BUT... if you could pull it off, it would be a one-of-a-kind rolling masterpiece!

The guy also had this bike, but I couldn’t talk him out of it.

This was a simple wipe down. It is going to clean really good! I can’t see any places on the chrome that I don’t think won’t clean up.

Epic score! The mother load indeed?

You got all that for like $50!!!!????

Not a huge fan of the women’s bikes, but that Monark is fabulous!!!!!

No, I didn’t get them for $50, but the math comes out to $17.24 per bike.

Few years ago, neighbor stops me riding by his building, which used to be a Rambler dealership. He saw me ride by all the time so he says, you interested in buying some old bikes? He was in the middle of a clean out. Scored a couple of pretty ratty Schwinn cantilevers, couple of cheapo imported bikes and a cool old Roll fast cruiser. I didn't pay him much, but he was going to scrap em and he thought he might get $3 each.

Wow, that Mark Four cleaned up REAL good!!!

Gotta love those kinda deals. This one fell into my lap as well.

I was shocked as I was washing it! He a number of these bikes had been hanging up in his shop since it was built in 1986. They are all covered in years of dust, grease, and lot of them have dirt daubers all over them.

Here’s more pics of the bikes I picked up. Some pretty much just have parts value, but others are pretty good bikes. My intent is sell the bikes that I’m not really into to recover my investment, keep the ones I like, and break down the others to fill my parts stash and to sell of the parts I’ll never use.

Proven Jet - judging by the chainring it’s AMF built. I’ve never seen or heard of this brand.
