Ok, for a while now I'm a regular user of The Rat Rod Bikes forum. Actually, I only come here to see the work of others. Often I wanted to participate in a discussion, but as a Dutchman it is not always easy to write English. But this time I'm going to do it anyway because of this build off. About four weeks ago I started a build for a colleague of mine. His wish is a hipster fixed-gear bicycle. But since I'm not a big fan of fixed-gear bikes anymore, I'm going to build something else. A fast road bike, single speed with coaster brake and a cool paint job!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Last summer I bought this frame. It has the right size for my colleague. It's a 80ties handmade Koga Miyata frame. By the way, the name of the cat is Bert. Also I need to explain why the project is called "semster". The name of my colleague is Semir and I'm going to build a speedster. Combine these two and you have "semster".

As I mentioned before, I'm now 4 weeks into this build. I bought the frame with handlebar and stem. Was quite a task to get the stem from the fork. Spent an hour smashing, greasing, heating and pulling. The aluminium was corroded badly. But in the end it came off. Next up was removing all the cable and gear brackets.

Next step is the removal of the paint. Removing the paint I always do with Alabastine Super Afbijt (stripper). Over the years I have stripped a lot of frames with this stuff, never had any problems. Up to this time, the stripper does not have any effect on the paint. That is a setback. Sandblasting the frame is not an option because of the costs. So I went for the cheap but time consuming solution. I stripped the frame completely by sanding. Took me about 10 hours. But the result is there.

And I've fitted some seatposts to find out the right diameter.

Because there is almost no fabrication work on this build I will focus on the paintjob to let the bike stand out. Yesterday I applied a second layer of primer (white). Today it was color time. I went for a fresh matt green. Later I will lay down some black and off white accents.
