Here is an older Trek "Multitrack" 700c rigid bike my mom bought new. It sports a True-Temper double-butted and lugged chromo frame with rack mounts to boot!
It fell into disrepair, so I threw a mix of functional parts at it to get it running again. Used MTB index shifters, Di-Comp 5 levers, new cheap 3x crankset, cassette & chain, and some riser bars. Also reworked the Orig. wheelset.(PITA! Every spoke nipple was frozen solid).. Rides good now!

Found the 1981 Traveler the other day, finished rehabbing that, AND, finally rediscovered the 1984 Schwinn World that I forgot I even had, and of course it re-rusted again in the Florida shed..touched up and re adjusted..Both good to go.

It’s light, it’s fast, it’s fun as heck, and I never ride it:rofl: at least as often as I should. I’ll try n get pics of my 80’s roadies soon.

Oh, and here’s my cross bike, with slicks at the moment. This gets much more saddle time then the one above—

It doubles as my touring bike too. Rode it from San Francisco to Ventura in June.

Nice! :praise: HWY 1 was closed to cars because of the blown-out bridge? If so, great idea to ride the coast.(Edit:toobad they didn't let you push your bikes around it!)
My 40's Shelby set up roadie for a period of time..

Hwy 1 was closed completely around big sur. We had to go inland for a bit. Some private roads and even on the 101.
A group of friends do the ride every summer. This year I was lucky enough to get work off to go. We take our time, 9 days with a rest day in the middle. Camp every night. Had about 25lbs on my bike.
The whole time I wished I was on steel tho. Although a fun bike, the one pictured is not ideal for touring. And tho I know it won’t break, looking down at a carbon fork vibrate when you’re asending a hill in the 50+mph range is a little unsettling.
Few months back I picked up an early 90s bianchi that was an early ‘hybrid/ flatbar’ style bike. 700c wheels with clearance for wider tires, cantilever brakes. And full cromo. It will be built up soon as a touring rig for 2018’s ride.

Got some nice bikes in the first month of the year:

No pictures yet, but next for cleaning and tune-up: Raleigh Grand Sport (Reynolds 531), Motobecane Jubilee Sport and the other Fuji Palisade.
