Is RaTs GaSs a bicycle version of a gasser drag car? Found this:

"With form being dictated by function, their appearance is often very top heavy and ungainly, largely due to front ends being raised higher than stock, to assist in the weight transfer during rapid acceleration (racing)."

Not my own music, BRE, but I do dig it! :bigsmile: Thanks for the kudos!

Anybody else getting excited to see the builds in the voting booth?!? :113:

Rats GaSs was one of the first threads I stumbled upon here this summer, following along really had me thinking about many things on this particular build;

- off topic but really dig the back 40.
- straight axle, slicks, twisted fender well headers, tinted glass, grabbing gears, tire smoke. Can't go wrong.
- SpectraFlame paint job! Fades are hard enough but try and pull of a multi-color transparent fade on top of chrome tubing. I can only imagine that was a bit tricky.
- what a great idea to use a gasser-themed bike for a rat rod build, but to execute is another thing altogether, all while tying in late 60's Schwinn Krate styling, Hot Wheels inspired paint, and RF gasser features.

Bike came out well! Glad the gasser genes won out at the end.

I don't know, looks like you had way too much fun building this one ;)

Great follow through on the theme, love it.

Thanks OC! I appreciate the detailed observations, it is clear you know your way around gassers! I mainly built this out of an attraction to the style of a gasser, and have always wanted to incorporate a Rat Fink / Weird Ohs model vibe in a bike build. This was my chance! I learned a bunch in the process about gassers, from my research and from all the fellow members on the forum.

I built the BACK40 when I went into semi-retirement four years ago. It's like the corn crib clubhouse I grew up with on the farm, with a few more amenities. :wink1:

Thanks TJ ! I really did have a GaS building this!

Nice job Lee.
You really checked all of the boxes for the gasser look. I beleve that any old school drag racer will instantly recognize it without having to be told what your objective was. :41:
:inlove:

I remember two odd things about drag racing those Mopars.

2. for some reason, the rear lifted at launch!
Fun to watch.
Mopars have pinion snubbers on the rear end, right over the yoke. You can low buck the equivalent of traction bars by clamping the front of your leaf springs together and, by using one of several methods, adjust the snubber so it makes contact with the body immediately on launch. Snubber contacts the body as the axle is trying to wrap...so instead of wrapping, the rear end is forced down planting the tires and lifting the body.

Which is one of the reasons that song is complete propaganda! A 413 Super Stock Mopar hooks up against a small block Vette that first spins, back pedals, AND toasts the clutch...that Vette got ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! :grin:

Oh...ummm...great build OJ :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:!
