Clear coat will look good. Are those the forks it came with?
When I pulled it out of a field the forks were not original to the bike. After pulling them, I realized that they would have had a locking springer fork (because of the bearing cup). The ones I went with came off a 54 schwinn parts bike I had. The truss rods I will use came off a 1950 Schwinn I have. IMG_5939.JPG

Bare metal with rust converter sprayed on. Photo won't attach. Anyway, it looks kind of bronze-titanium.

Any updates?

Sorry for the delay in posting. I had it all mocked up and then I set out to pull the seat post.....

After a couple of weeks of efforts I was able to chisel the seat post down enough to so I can insert a new one. I even tried to beat it downward.

Here is the aftermath of the seat post pulling...View attachment 29074
I've had this exact problem before, if you grind off what's left of the seatpost and notch it, you can make a solid seatpost out of whatever diameter of steel rod fits. Consider the old rust welded seat post as a shim.

I'd probly just weld in a new seat-post, with shims or whatever it takes...and just cut that ratiness off the top of the seattube
i would never have the patience to spend weeks trying to bend it down or knock it out.
Nice bike..how bout just polish over the steel, that's always a good look tool

best

I wanted to thank all the people that were giving me encouragement during the build off. Unfortunately, with the seat post issue I had, it put me behind and I was unable to recover BUT I have never been one to quit. Even though the build off is over I am going to continue to post until I am finished.

I do love when I find the schwinn name on parts that are not seen by the naked eye.

Found my neck, handlebars, seat post clamp and seat. Seat came from a 70's Ross; I love the stripes.
