Looking forward to the trashy moonies.

The fork is looking cool, but it sure does seem like a lot of stress is gonna be on this section. Are you sure it will hold up?

I believe so. This was a mockup. I've since put on some grade 8 bolts so they won't shear off. And there is a rubber washer in between as well as rubber inserts on the brackets so it has some forgiveness. My buddy had broached the same concern, especially because the brackets are aluminum...we'll see on the test ride.

Ohhhhh biscuit! We've got the shapings of a 'trashy moon'. Thankfully there are 4 dimples pressed into the tin, and they are equally spaced so I had ready made bolt mounts.

Btw, if you don't have a pack of wood skewers in your work space, I highly recommend you pick some up. There are about a gazillion uses for these beyond kabobs, and lining up your wheel covers is one of them.

Clip the excess, and we're ready for the first mockup!

Throw another wheel kebab on the barbee.

Ok, full moon a go!

First attempt bulges out too much at the hub, so I had to massage the center from convex to concave.

Still too close to the sprocket, so dimple in the next ridge.

Better clearance, but the chain will rub so I will have to cut out the center completely on the drive side, but it will work. Loving these finishing washers coupled with the binding posts.

Words cannot express how badly I want configuration #3 to work. However, these porch swing springs have a 325 lb compression limit, doubled with a second spring. They will look cool but provide 0% shock absorption as I am 140 lbs soaking wet with a brick in my pocket. Anyone know where I can get compression springs in the 150-175lb range?

I question if this will work with those brackets regardless of the spring tension. I feel like the brackets will slide with enough pressure on them.:39:

BTW the little Krylon cans are so cool and the garbage can discs look great! The binding bolts are perfect!

Thank you! Yes, I agree. The brackets would slide, and/or the geometry wouldn't be right in the flex or compression of the springs. Also, when looking at clearance, I would likely bottom out after hitting a solid bump (or at least scrape a crank arm).

That trashy moon is looking classier and classier.

So I scored some panther pink 20s, but not completely sold on them. There will be some contrast on the rear moon that will lighten the overall look, but I think the lighter 'pepto' pink might look better. We shall see...thoughts?
