You don’t know what I’ve got.

For years I’ve found my niche with old, rusty Schwinn Sting-Rays, like DeterioRat and Coda.

With Coda, I felt I had done all I wanted to do with corrosion. I liquidated my entire Sting-Ray collection, save my wife’s Slik Chic. Now I find myself in the Anything Goes category for the first time, stepping outside my rusty cage of tradition for something shiny and modern.

I’m not a fabricator. To use a musical analogy, I cannot compose, but I can orchestrate what others create with their instruments. This build will be about arranging the work of some very talented musicians. That said, a prelude is in order.

These are some extraordinary times we’re living in, and I believe it will lead to an extraordinary build-off. I look forward to participating in the company of so many talented and creative builders.

Diggin' the raw bones of this build! And, you've already 'hooked' me with the first few notes.
RaT oN~!

Sweet, did you get a custom frame from someone, or have one built? Nice looking work in that small peek.

Good eye, King. Those welds! It’s a Lairdframe, handbuilt by Mike Laird with my geometry specs. Took four months to get it; ordered in October and received it in March, but worth the wait. It’s for 22” wheels, hence the name Deuce Deuce.

Frame number 498
Top tube: 21”
Head tube angle: 74 degrees
Seat tube angle: 71 degrees
Bottom bracket: 12”
Chain stay: 13.9”
Standover: 9.25”
Material: Vari-Wall's BMX specific Thermlx
Seat stay bridge artwork (personal to each bike): WWII American aircraft insignia
Raw metal frame with no clear coat. I’m up to coat #4 of a penetrating oil finish.

Here are some pics that Mike posted to his IG account after finishing my frame (too busy this weekend to take my own pics).

My earlier “test pic” which also came from Mike Laird’s IG account. It’s my bottom bracket and seat tube in a jig on his workbench.

@mike_laird

Super thrilled to have one of his frames. Arguably the finest BMX frames in the world, and reasonably priced considering.

THAT IS PURE BEAUTY!!!!! I hope you don't cover it with paint!!!!

No paint and no clear coat ever (at least while I’m caretaker). Penetrating oil only. Raw metal, baby!

Exactly how I felt. On the inside, though. Kept the flailing to myself, thankfully, since the frame was delivered to my job.

This bike will likely be the only arrow in my quiver once completed. It’s a keeper.

I have heard of Laird, highly regarded by bmx kings.
