Previous owner tried to fit EA-3 (Iso 590 mm) tires on Schwinn 26 x 1 3/8 S-6 (Iso 597 mm) wheels. They got one on too, and it sure don't want to come off now!

How would you even do that? Lay the tire out on some blacktop on a hot sunny day for a few hours?

IDK but I'm gonna try to pry the tires off with some soapy water. If I can save them they may be fine on non Schwinn wheels!

1980 Raleigh Grand Prix mixte.

My wife loves this bike, she wants it for longer road rides.
Needs different bars for a more upright seating position.
Suntour V-GT Derailleur, Sakae front crankset.

couldn't find a serial number, using the date on the stem 12-79 to date the bike.

Schwinn dealer custom name tags.

Seller at swap said the came from old dealership. When you bought a bike, they included one to put on your handlebars. Had to dig thru big jar to find one for my wife and me. Some (not the ones I bought) had instructions (maybe printed on the release paper?) and in very fragile and yellowed cellophane wrappers.

The adhesive is petrified. May attach with magnets.

This LaJolla was a project my brother never got to.
IMG_1090.JPG

I would like to strip the paint and polish the Aluminum frame.
IMG_1089.JPG

Maybe have someone media blast it and get a mat finish?
IMG_1093.JPG

Pretty small chain wheel - only 36 tooth!

I guess they made them under Kent and Next brand names. Pretty light frame - may throw some nicer parts on it if it fits me. :)
I have only come across a few Kent and Next bikes. Never fixed one up though, usually just strip them for parts and junk them.

Yep it's a 26. Gonna put tires and seat on and test ride.
Pic found on net of person standing behind one for scale.

Got to fit me before I put a lot into it.

Seat tube looks pretty short. I could probably be comfortable on it, but I'm 5'-6"!

For fun I should just blow it apart and start over. The frame is aluminum and the cranks look like cast iron!

Maybe with a longer laid back seat post and apes..... :cool2:

I used to do that all the time as there was no Schwinn shop in the 70s and 80s where I was living. It's a struggle and you have to be persistent and have will over matter. You can get them off but you need pry bars, screwdrivers and liquid soap as tire irons bend. I have residual hate for Schwinns since my frustration with their tires and only own two and both have had the original wheels swapped out for standard 26 inch.

I did get the standard tires off the Schwinn wheels - and it was a fight!
I'm going to transplant a Stermy 3 speed from a newer Schwinn Breeze which I already replaced the tires and tubes with new.

Kawasho mountain bike. Made for Kawasaki in Taiwan. I could not find any info on line. I guess they marketed these thru motorcycle shops and department stores. Equipped with pretty low end components. crank and bars are silver painted not plated.
