Starting the Krate Krusher(High Plains Drifter) bike. This is my first bike build-off. I am altering a 1959 Murray BF Goodrich Sabre Challenger, in to a “Krate Like” lowrider. I picked up a 3 speed shifter off of the bay, that will help power the middle weight frame with 26 inch wheels. More part and accessory pics to come.

Welcome to RRB and the Build Off. Look forward to seeing your squashed grape unfold!!

Here is the 1959 Murray Challenger Sabre. I bought it nearly 15 years ago, and it spent half of its life in my garden as yard art. The wheels and seat were rusty crusty. The tiny handle bars had to go to the dump. The frame, crank and chain guard were the only salvageable parts. The bearings are rusty but I’m an reviving them in Evaporust and then engine oil. I’ll repack them before assembly. I have the tires I’m using, mocked up on some roached 26’s. This will be a 3 speed and will be relacing a wheel to accommodate. I’ll probably paint the chain guard first, and decided on some complimenting color for the frame. More to come.

Went part picking at my storage today. I should have been putting things in, not taking things out. I discovered that a 3 speed that I had disassembled years ago, happens to be a Shimano 333. This will match up great with the 333 stick shift I picked off the bay for a real good price. That kind of luck never happens to me, so we’ll see how it fits all together.
