Re: Mudcury(not 100% sure about that name)

Oh I am so sorry! Lol life has gotten pretty hectic for me  between baseball and completely redoing my garage I've had little time for RRB let alone the Mudcury  ill get those pics posted ASAP! I've had 40 American Legion Baseball games in the past month! Luckily it's over in about 2 week. Some good News while I was "absent" is that I have gotten my drivers license, I've gotten most of the garage cleaned and organized, and when I finish the garage in a few days I will be full speed ahead finishing the Mudcury! Sorry for the long delay

Re: Mudcury(not 100% sure about that name)

Alright fellow RRB-ers I am changing my plan for this bike. I'm not switching the frame just what I'm going to do with it, and the name! I will be changing the name to either Hg 80 or Hg Quicksilver! Why you ask? Well I've been looking at bikes on google and RRB and saw some pretty rad builds that were bikes that were bare-metal. I mostly saw elgin bikes done-up like that but I loved the way they looked! Anyways I know that Mercury, as an element is a beautiful silver color, like bare metal. So I'm naming it because Mercury's nickname is "Quicksilver" or because Mercury's periodic symbol is Hg and its atomic number is 80. So help me decide, "Hg Quicksilver" or "Hg 80"!!! I think people are going to really like the build this way. Pics of stripped frame and other silver parts should be up tomorrow after my baseball game!

Re: Mudcury now "Hg 80" or "Hg Quicksilver"

Shame to see teh original painted frame darts go, but I like your build idea.
There were quite a few bare metal builds in BO7.
I like Hg Quicksilver the best.
Just over 3 weeks to go, so you better GET TO BUILDIN!!!!!!!

King it's not even all original paint  ...someone decided to repaint most of the black horribly :/ some spots you can take your fingernail and it flakes down to bare metal! It's like 1 coat of crappy rattle can stuff. And I know! I'm hurrying up, I have some of the parts I need already so now I just need to strip the paint off of them and build it!

I also have a wanted ad for parts I would like to get....incase anyone wants to take a look

Re: Mudcury now "Hg 80" or "Hg Quicksilver"

My vote would be use quicksilver version, for those of us who don't know to periodic chair thing.

I think the name is fine for what your building. Just drop in the hyphen and it will read better.

Re: Mudcury now "Hg 80" or "Hg Quicksilver"

UPDATE: started the sanding of the frame today! I forgot to take a pic of the bike while it was sanded (I got the top bar mostly down to bare metal :? ) that's the faul in using a piece of sand paper and my own hand lol anyways I'm getting paint remover tomorrow at Home Depot....hopefully it's much easier!

While sanding I found the original pinstripes! Too bad they have to go

While I was sanding the crank to get the rust off the chrome actually disappeared and the copper playing showed through! It looks pretty sick

I got them! And for the metal pan thing...would a paint roller pan or a aluminum cake pan work?

The plan was to sand down the rust until it was basically shiny again...I got half of the frame sanded...just the rear end needs to be done

Nice steampunk goggles!

Oh it started working in minutes! I was surprised and thanks! My aunt got them at some big auction or whatever for $7....turns out they're worth over $100! Good purchase right there

Re: Mudcury now "Hg 80" or "Hg Quicksilver"

Nice work. I think we all appreciate how much work it is to do all that sanding...I know on my Vista Cruiser I must've spent a month of evenings sanding it down to shiny metal. Lotta work for something that's just going to be covered up again, but it pays off. :D

Re: Mudcury now "Hg 80" or "Hg Quicksilver"

Great work on the frame stripping and sanding!
