Per @Chad T suggestion to add a little contrast to the badge, I rubbed in some Folkart acrylic paint to see what might happen.

It seemed to adhere to the surface of etched parts and wiped off the smooth surface pretty well.

    More brainstorming ahead...

Man, that was a groovy acid trip! Did you eat some Back40 shrooms to think of that?

I didn't eat any shrooms, but I did inhale some fumes! :crazy2:

Great work on the headbadge. I tried that last year for the first time.

Extra tip: if your ink transfer doesn’t work fully you can touch it up with nail polish. It will protect the aluminium from the acid.

Yeah, me too. I went one more step towards more definition today. Will post tomorrow morning after I get some 'clean up ' on the badge in.

So, here's that "one more step" I mentioned above ^...

I picked up a bronze Rustoleum spray and sprayed the badge, not a heavy coat, but enough to cover. I have two badges, one that didn't transfer as well and is not as detailed. I used that for my first attempt at revealing the image.

Pretty steamy in the BACK40 , so I moved into the AC confines of my upstairs office. Better light too.
    67677913_2136383736659741_5693392863572787200_n.jpg
I first used dry 1000 grit wet/dry paper. And rapidly with a light touch sanded off the image.

It definitely came out shiny, with a nice contrast, but I wore away some of the image that was there. Remember, this is aluminum, and very soft.

On the Helen Wheels badge, I used a wet 1000 grit paper (both times covering the end of the eraser equipped pencil, and took more time. I also lightly brushed the background more, to blend the two together.

Satisfied with the result, I used a J&B Kwik Weld and covered the back of the badge, then tied and clamped it on the head tube overnight.

These are the shots I just took this morning.

Great work on that your Badge40!
For future reference, I have been using this 3M mounting tape for badges and such for years. Holds forever and isn't quite as permanent as JBWeld.

Beautiful hot, sunny day here in the north land. Decided to take a spin over to the local Applewood Park and shoot some photos and video. Hope you're having a good one!

Groovy ride! I feel like all ride videos should be set to 2x speed and have the Benny Hill music playing

Fade looks killer in that last shot. Badge looks nice with the bronze. Who's playing that groovy music in the ride vid? Love how you handle that little machine. You can try one of mine on for size if you're ever in c'bus.

That sunlight really makes the fade job pop! Keep that in mind for your final pics.

Thanks Chad! I had a couple of guys come up and didn't even pick up on the fade until I mentioned the things I had done to the bike.

My son is on drums, his buddy on guitar. They had a band in high school and for a couple years after. This is an old recording from about 8 yrs ago. I like their funky style. They have a bunch of songs they wrote together.

I'm really digging the muscle bikes. Wish I was about half my size, but they are really fun!
