Picked up some 1998 or so GT Harley Davidson Custom Sport parts off eBay before they got expensive. In the boredom of staying COVID free I’ve started putting things together.

1999 Judy XLC Rock Shox 26", hoping after 21 years in a box it still has some life.
Hydracoil! That's a good one, used a coil spring and oil damping. As long as the seals still hold oil, that thing will take waaaay more than you will dish out on that bike.

Mock-up as it is now. NOS HD frame, HD crank, Rock SHOX fork, wheelset with Sturmey Archer drum brake hubs, 5 speed shifter, SA brake levers and a PHAT Bikes saddle. Tires may change.

I like the blue walls better .

The blue are 26x2.125
The black are 36x2.5 but measure out at about 2.2”. Thought they would be wider mounted.
Think I also like the blue walls better in appearance.

I’ve been tinkering some more. I added a chain. I then fabricated a torque arm bracket to stabilize the Sturmey Archer drum brake arm. I decided not to use a clamp on shock leg.

I did the same thing. It looks neat and tidy but when you are on a group ride and you get a flat it’s a lot harder to get the wheel off than it is when it just slides out. What I did when I got a flat was to leave the wheel on the bike, remove the bead on one side, find the leak and patch it. A few guys stayed around to watch.

Yah let’s not talk about flats. The way I did it should just involve one bolt though...might want to carry a spare bolt and nut on bike.

I installed the brake cables, shifter cable, pedals, grips and got things button up adjusted and tightened. I still need to secure cables in their guide lugs. I have some shims, forgot I had them.
Anyway I took it for a spin. The Sturmey Archer 5 speed hub and drum brakes worked well. I will need to adjust saddle and brake cables.

So this is how it sits now. Have a rear fender plan in the works. I’ll probably put a larger cog on rear hub based on my test ride.

Changed out the rear SA 20T cog to a more senior friendly SA 24T cog. Test ride felt better, won’t be a speedy ride, but more relaxed.

Not sure the saddle is a good fit with the geometry of this bike.
