hey yall,
i responded to an ad on CL today..
pretty much said bike of all kinds antiques too.
turns out the guy was in my hood.
he had mostly crap. a few off brand lightweights, and this.....
headbadge says tru - test.
crank and fork scream monark to me.
its in great shape. a bit of rust, no front tire, but rims are pretty tru and roll well.
skiptooth chain is in great shape.
the saddle is a great candidate for recovering.
the pedals and bars look to be added later.
i love the colors and the fenders are sweet.
chainguard is interesting too.
also, the tank has a horn...havent looked inside yet.
new departure rear hub in good shape

oh yeah, i paid $30 for it.....dang!!!!

i think i will just clean her up, grease her up, throw on some kenda flames that i already have or 1.75 ww's and call her done!

does anybody know anything about this brand?
thanks,
adam

Looks to be a Monark Rocket. Appartently made for Tru-Test which was probably a hardware store. The single spring Monark forks are a little rarer than the double spring models. Probably late 40's or early 50's. Heckofa buy for $30!! Skip tooth chain rings on Monarks are a rarity as well.

Nice find. You need some 2.125 whitewalls or blackwalls. The Kenda Flames go better on a fenderless bike.

thanks yall.

and clancy, yeah i gotta get some 2.125 ww's....

1.75's wont do it justice, and flames are a bit too contemporary.

I always thought Monarks never had skip tooths, even the Silver Kings and 5 bars had 1/2" pitch. But, in the old bike world, never say never! Could be a Cleveland Welding sprocket though... But- what a steal! ~Adam

no, dont think its a CWC.. looked up all the skiptooth sprockets i could and those were usually on monarks.
