My son has recently (finally) got interested in working/tinkering with things and he showed some interest in my old bikes. I took the opportunity to dig out a Schwinn Tornado and Magalloy wheels I’ve have squirreled away and build him first project bike. The bike was originally red with yellow fenders and mag wheels. The bike had been rattle canned flat black and the wheels were sprayed blue when I got it.
This is what we started with.

This bike was “too McDonald’s looking” according to my son in its stock colors, so he said he’d rather “murder it out” which apparently means all black!

This was how they looked originally.

This was our spin on it. We went all black with it, and I swapped out the factory braced rear fender and with a floating ducktail fender for a little cleaner look. We capped off the look with a headbadge from a ‘63 Schwinn Collegiate and set of fat 20 X 2.35” Mongoose white letter tires.

It actually turned out looking much cooler than I expected. It has cool beefy look and is much cooler than all of his friend’s bike (IMO).

I have to agree with your son, the black paint will definitely look better, kewl bike...

Thanks! It’s been a cool project. I have a 80’s Schwinn frame that he wants to build an adult sized version of it. It’s cool to see him getting into bikes.

My son has never been a fan of the hard plastic seat on this bike, but I found a cool looking Schwinn “S” with a bit more padding. Looks pretty good on there.
