I’m building an old school BMX bike for my son for his upcoming 9th birthday. I purchased a 1966 Schwinn Stingray frame back in June of ‘17. Been ordering parts like a mad man!
I don’t know who’s more excited about the build him or me!!
Well, we started.....

Frame as I received it

Original bottom rear fender bolt and nut with a piece of the rear fender rusted shut on it. Sawzall time!

Bolt and nut removed...

Trying to keep it old school...

Well, got the handlebars today and only awaits the rear wheel. Oh and more thing, my son drops on me tonight he wants a rear fender....
So I says okay , but I get to bob it! He asks what’s that? I says I gets to make it cool! lol!!!
I hope I can get what I see in my head...

A 9-year-birthday build!? OMG, this is going to end with all of us weeping tears of sentiment. Great to see. He's about to know "true freedom" when he starts pedaling BM-Xray around town.

Too cool. The look on a kids face when they realize how cool their custom is, absolutely priceless! Did some work on my guy's yesterday, and he was talking about showing it off down at the park:
"All the kids will know that this is the only one like it in the world!"
All I did was change the rubber!

Awesome! My son and I recently built a cantilever BMX Schwinn. It’s the first bike he’s ever helped me with and he had blast doing it. He’s wanting to do a “Mike‘s Bike” build from Stranger Things now.

Awesome bike!! I seen the one pic on here. I showed the pic to my boy and now he wants a rear fender on his too now!! Excellent job, I especially like what you did with those wheels!!!

Great build, thats a really good color. Bobbed fender will look good.

I have 7 and 9 year old daughters, have them both on alum frame bmx race bikes. I cant get them to bite on a "banana seat" bike build.
