Hi folks,

I started this project in 2011, but put it aside after the welding and sandblasting was done...
This Build Off is a good reason to pick it up again, and finish it 8)

The bike is a Batavus Super Sport from the late '40s.
I will change it from "Gents bike" into a racer.

Welcome to RRB and the Build Off from across the pond. Great to add another international player to the mix.

That frame is freaking awesome!!!! I love the multi-tubes and how the curves and angles just work together.
You have my attention!

Good luck

Thanks guys!

It's a quite rare find and a great design, thats why I chose to save it.
But, as you can see in the close ups, its really rusty and in bad shape but safeable!

Thanks!

Here's a mock up.
The seat is just for display, it's to far gone :-(
But, I allready found a Brooks competition in blach with copper nails! Yeahaa
I found a Mayor Tailor handlebar (reproduction), the one in the pic is just to see how low handlebars look like.
Realy happy about this combo...

Ditto!

Thanks Folks!

Funny historical detail: Opel (yes, the one from the cars) used this design in the '20s for professional race bicycles.

Final filler (spray)... And then finally paint! And some subtle pinstriping

Such a cool frame and the pinstripe green is a great color! I have a old BMC twin bar kids side walk bike that this frame reminds me of.
