Wasn't looking for a new project but....would you have passed on it?

Got a call yesterday from a lady that was trying to unload her 87 year old Uncle's bike, at a local bike shop. The shop owner gave her my number.
She wasn't sure what she had but, had done some research on the web....[emoji27]

She said if it was to be flipped it would cost me. I promised to keep it my collection. She allowed me to take it home.
And wants me to revive it and send her pictures.
Lots of potential here.
Stoked to have gotten it...and who wouldn't be?

No way am I using oven cleaner. That removes everything down to bare metal.
An application of lacquer thinner is all that's in store for the paint removal. Follow up with polishing compound and sit back and admire.

Removed the tank last night to see if I could find a clue to its original color.
Maroon or dark red was found.
Hoping I can find a very nice original paint on the rest of the bike.
Lots of work ahead of me on this revival.

Been working on the OG paint reveal for a bit now.
Tedious work and my digits hurt.
Decided to use Heavy Duty GoofOff with 0000 steelwool on his project. Thinking the normal lacquer thinner rub down would be too much on this one, not wanting to get to aggressive and remove the unknown original paint.
Found out that the weird looking revealed red on maroon (which I thought was damage caused by the repaint red) was actually the factory applied red pinstripes. Daggum it!.
Now I know....don't rub this off...you think[emoji33]

Still a long way to go on this revival.
Did find red pinstriped white rims under the silver repaint...these ought to come out nice.

This is the untouched factory red pins, found under the fender over fork.

The rims...I like it!

Here is an Elgin with the same paint scheme.
Problem was, I should have asked for pictures from someone who had one with the maroon with red pins before I started.
I love the color combo
His rims are red not my white though.
