Awesome.....should look almost perfect when it's cleaned up.

Love the double clamp stem.

Now I realize it may be a sin to admit this, but I have always had a soft spot for those bikes. They cover all of the old school bmx basics. Funky colors, gusseted frame, color match wheels and seats, and cool necks. I would love to see it all cleaned up.

If my scanner was working I would show you all the photo of me and my Pro Thunder circa 1981.

Nice bike btw.

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

Nice, I had one of those when I was a kid. Got it back last summer but it was too far gone to restore so I sold it again.

My first bike! Ah the memories..... Growing up in a single income family with 5 children, it's all my parents could afford. I loved that bike! Cried for a week when it was stolen..... :(

Wow! Where did you find that? I would love to have that for my Huffy BMX Bike collection, they are the only ones I can Pay for  A two grand BMX bike is not fun  I also have a 84 Stu Thomsen that I have to get up on the museum

Here's my pro 3. Just like the one I bought new at wal-mart in 1982 or 83. Got this one off on eBay . Looks almost exactly like it did back in the day but my rims were blue like yours when I bought it. Also had a clear tinted chain guard. Can you tell me what size your tires are I put 1.75 on but they may be smaller than the originals

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

This is a neat thread cheep cool old school bmx. I just bought a Huffy pro thunder in Blue with a factory 2 speed troddle shift & factory Araya rims & alloy brakes .. For 2 bucks at a yard sale !!
Ill post a pic when I get a chance.

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

Mine has the 20 x 2.125's. The tires and tubes are the only thingi plan on replacing. I think I can save everything else

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

Thanks for the info. I think your bike is 100% original. I remember those tires and hand grips on mine when it was new

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

This must have been a popular bike. It seems like a lot of people had it. I am searching for tires and it looks like the only yellow with gumwall tires i can find are the repop Comp III design. I think those will work, but I wonder if there are other options out there... The front tire is a little dry, but could be saved, but the rear is down to the threads.

how do you think a blue w/gumwall tire would look?

I started cleaning it up today. Here are a few pictures from before I started:

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

I'm digging the look of the Comp II's. Most likely with stick with yellow to keep it as original as possible

Re: 1980 Huffy Pro Thunder BMX

I never know if i should start a new thread in the build section or other bikes... so I'll just continue this one here.

I tore it all down tonight. So far I just cleaned off the the sticker covering the decal. It was a Kelloggs sticker for the 1984 Olympics. It has it's share of nicks, but I think it is worth restoring
