A friend of mine expressed an interest in learning the ways of the force (pre war bicycle collecting).

After searching for a long time (3 days, I have ADHD) I found a good starter on CL. The seller gave me a great deal ($250) so I sent my friend to pick her up. He brought it to my house the next day (12-18) and we tore it all the way down and started the process.
Serial # is F192349, Westfield built 1941.

15437651224

Chrome going to thechromeshop.com
Everything metal stripped bare.
Dents removed (fenders still being worked)
Tank/forks/rack/chain guard is primed and ready for paint
ordered Persons pedals and bought a Delta torpedo light

Seat needs recover and it has a broken piece that connects the springs. Needs to be replaced or welded. Anyone have that piece?
Frame needs L drop out ear bent back into shape and there is a small repair needed under seat post clamp.
Wheels are buried in paint and stripper is having a tough time penetrating. Thinking about calling the National Guard.

Feel free to chime in here and give your opinions; good and bad, it all helps!

After a long delay we got back to work on this and my 1940 Colson snap tank yesterday (12-22) . We went at it all day and the Elgin got closer to being ready while I screwed up just about everything on my Colson! Patience IS a virtue. One I wish I had. My paint looks like a spider's web.
(Sorry I dont have pictures to offer)
I will post some later.

The Elgin's tank, forks and chainguard are done. The wheels have been worked and primed. Frame is almost ready for paint. After taking the fenders to bare metal it is clear there is much more to be done.

Due to the Ca weather, the progress has been slow on the 41 Elgin and the 40 Colson. Here are the latest pics of both.

Tomorrow morning we will get these suckas assembled.

The Elgin chrome is in another state (The Chrome Shop, Rock Island, Ill) and wont be back for 2 weeks. You can bet it will be fully assembled within an hour of receiving the shiny goodness :)

Going to be a cool bike!

I still suffer from stupidity with loading photos...

My friend and I spent a few hours working on our bicycles. He showed up at my house with some things he had taken home to work on. When I saw them I immediately became jealous. I thought about shooting him in an effort to make said parts mine. Again, I just "thought" about it. We put some of bicycle together.

This is my friends first re do and he is puttin' me to shame! His bicycle is lookin NICE! All the missing stuff is being finished at the The Chrome Shop. Once it comes back (1 week?) this sucka will be done. He bought another Elgin ('39 womans) on feebay and also picked up a SWEET deal on a mens '37 Elgin of CL. He's gettin' started on those this week.
Here's his '41 so far:
