“Slow Spokes DFW January Cruiser Bicycle Ride"

Saturday, January 18, 2014, 1:30 PM White Rock Lake, Dallas, TX

Happy New Year! The “Slow Spokes DFW” cruiser bicycle club invites all fans of cruiser style bicycles (beach cruisers, vintage balloon tires, muscle bikes, rat rod bikes, kustom bikes, comfort bikes, etc.) to join them for a cruiser bike ride on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:30 PM. We will be riding Dallas’ most popular trail, a scenic 9.3 mile loop around White Rock Lake. Note: please wear your bicycle helmet (the law is enforced at White Rock Lake).

Let’s meet at Dallas’ historic Bath House Cultural Center. The Bath House is located at 521 E. Lawther Drive, Dallas TX 75218 (on the eastern shore of White Rock Lake at the end of Northcliff Drive). Transit to the Bath House via E. Lawther Drive is blocked off. Therefore, please access the Bath House from Northcliff Drive off of Buckner Blvd.

Opening in 1930, the Bath House was a popular place to escape the summer heat until closing in 1958. In 1980 it was transformed into a cultural center and currently houses gallery space, a black-box theater, and a museum. The Bath House is currently featuring an exhibit entitled “The Mechanical Soul: Steampunk Style in Contemporary Art.” Steampunk begun as a genre of science fiction featuring steam-powered machinery and fictional devices set in Victorian and/or American Old West time. Steampunk inspired art has been described as "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner.'' After the ride, you are encouraged to check out the art exhibit – it might be inspirational for a future rat rod bike project. Admission is free.

For after ride refreshments, “The Lot” family-friendly restaurant, 7530 East Grand Ave (at Gaston), Dallas, TX 75214 offers “good food, cold beer, and a cool patio.” The Lot is just a short 4 mile drive away (Note: Garland Rd. becomes East Grand Ave. just SW of the lake).

Weather was perfect. Great time, and some really great bikes.
