Not a lot of things are happing with it right now - but don't worry it'll be ready till the end of the Build-Off. The biggest problem is money for parts - not much more parts, are left to buy (steering bar, battery, LED's & spokes for the front wheel), but 3 weeks ago I couldn't sleep the whole night from tooth pain, and sadly - had to leave 1/3 of my sallary at the dentist :(

Also I'm helping a friend of mine - she needs a bike to ride to work or a grocery store, doesn't have much money, and also is 6ft high. She's used to riding on a girls frame, so that left me with looking for a girls frame that would be at least of a 20" seat tube size. I found a frame, a nice one even:

The girl who sold it to me made a lot of measurments and from what I figured it has a seat tube of a size 21.5", and was designed for 28" wheels. When it came the problem became clear - it's not made for 28" wheels, but for 26" from a very old & not used today size of ETRTO 590 (slightly larger than 27.5" that have an ETRTO of 584). So after a lot of swearing, and looking trough the internet I found a set of mag wheels made by Sachs with my favourite Dreigang in the rear, and a drum brake in the front.

And again - more problems, the wheels are in bad need of truing, and I don't even have an idea how to do it...

But back to the build. I managed to cut the foam for the seat:

Found a nice piece of leather to go with it:

Only need to buy more glue to make it work together. Also found a nice place to mount the shifter, so that I would not need to pull a cable on the frame:

Those mags are spectacular!
Didn't you hear him? Those mags are warped...

I trued one of my Mongoose mags with careful wacks with a rubber mallet. But I'm sure that's not the correct way. Truing does seem to be an issue with mags.

Carl.

Except the fact that they need truing, they have an issue with they're size. While very popular in the seventies in Dutch bicycles, 590mm size is not used right now. They were replaced with the more popular sized 26" - the 559mm, and later the 27.5" 584mm.

I called a friend of mine who has a car wheel repair shop & tire workshop, where he works with his father. I can say that they're one of the best guys when it comes to wheels in Warsaw. They're still using hand tools for truing wheels, and a lot of very old machinery.

Like this pre-WWII hydraulic press pump.

Or this transverse planner made just after WWII.

And some of the things they did are really cool!

Alloy wheels from Reanult 5 Turbo. These were made in 1966!

Wheels from an armored Cadillac that belonged to Marshal Józef Piłsudski.

But this thing... This is a set of wheels from a WWII cannon chassis that was converted to a regular trailer. Both bent beyond any hope... or so the owner thought.

I really have a lot of hope that they will help me with those mags, since when I called him he had a talk with his father and replied "Bring the bike, we will see what we can do."

Just today I realised - IT'S ALREADY 10th :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Time to work fast on this one! Then I looked in my wallet and realised - There are only cobwebs and dust in it, so I need to make it really cheap right now. More progress when i come home from work and can upload the pictures!

Ha-Ha! I had the “budget realignment” realization about a month and a half ago!

It’s ok! It makes us more creative and produces bikes that are much more unique!

So first thing - I bought a chainguard that can almost fit my needs.

It's called "Pistol Grip" and was installed in cheaper export Romet bicycles, mostly folders such as Wigry-Lux, Sokół-Lux etc. The problem is that I wanted a chromed one, and it was just swept right in front of my nose, so right now I need to figure out a color to repaint this one, since white fits to this bike - as we say it in Polish "Jak pięść do oka" (like a fist to the the eye).

Since money became the problem right now I decided to put the mini-apes that were mounted in my Karlik bicycle.
82181984_2542557699189529_5671348029098033152_o.jpg

Problm was that the stem that I bought (with the intent for full-sized apes) has a mount for a wider steering bar (this one has a 24mm mount, or something like that, the stem needed a 26mm wide mount).

Nothing that a piece of 1" pipe can't solve :21:

With that in place I could finally finish with the front brake, and again - the only lever I found was the right one... Oh well...

Also since the lack of money I needed to come up with something for the front wheel. Since the rear wheel has black spokes, and I can't afford right now a set of black spokes for the front one, why not just paint and relace the wheel instead?
82559537_2542557969189502_5311289023614943232_o.jpg

Also changed the front rim, from a nasty painted one, to a much earlier chromed one, and polished the front hub.

The wheel was a true challenge for me. Since mostly I laced wheels with no crosses or 3 crosses, and this one has only 2 crosses (28 spokes), and the spokes don't go through each other like in a 3 cross wheel. Good thing that I had a wheel as an example to put the spokes in right places. :21:

So right now - 17 days and I only need to finish the seat & lights. A lot of soldering and gluing is waiting ahead.

So two things to finish - lights & seat. Glued the seat together today, will mount it on monday. I visited a friend of mine who helps me with welding & electronics, and he found a set of LEDs from an old ID card reader.
84158862_2569371296508169_8116006112190267392_o.jpg

Not too bright, but I have two of them, so they will be visable.
82901503_2569371429841489_8835998125995851776_o.jpg

And a single LED from a broken torch for the headlight.

Bright enough for me.
83235933_2569371276508171_475725532781084672_o.jpg

also dug up a set of rubber plugs for the cable mounts in the frame.

So, I finally finished the seat.

I cut the leather straight with the line of the ski, and left that nose tip visible on purpose, so that it could still be destinguished as a ski-saddle:21:

83175973_2575124145932884_8521734574378582016_o.jpg

With the seat on I could finally finish the wiring. Oh, and guess what? I found a perfect battery box for those two 18650 batteries.
84191199_2575124172599548_5962928973661863936_o.jpg

Wrench no. 17 needed for access :21:

83430151_2575124342599531_347005594848198656_o.jpg

And with all that - it's finished. Now only need to take some good final photos.

Took it out for a spin - rides... I don't know... weird? The seat is kinda comfy, the suspention works, brakes are killer, but you need to get used to the "under-bum shifter".

Seat and front headlight look great on there! I like the ratty nature of this build.

Bring it on home!

Thanks! I like how most of the Muscle Bikes look, with their metallic paint, shiny chrome, and overall bling, but I'm more into the Destroyed/Deteriorated/Ratty look. Also this build cost me overall like 20$...
