Well, I've been told i can never leave well enuff alone. I took the stainless short cage that was originally on the springer an flattened the curve out of it with a 12lb sledge and my anvil and a few scraps of cardboard.

Used the vice to whack a little curve back into it.

And hand bent.the corners.

Had this old shortened spring lying around. And have a short cage springer. May give me another inch of pedal clearance.

Now just need a a shorter length bolt. Need togo to hardware store... then will bolt it in and see how it looks.

Dig the, reshaped crown :39:
That will make a pedal scraper.:)
That deep one really throws the front out there. Shortening the spring by 2" and shortening the crown by 4-5". My bet, Should raise it. Also Stiffen it up, and make it more rideable for higher speeds...

Picked up a 3" bolt while i was out.

Dropped the spring in some acid to take the rust off. Will be a few hours yet.

I see what you doing;
now ,, that I am on tablet.
Couldn't see as well on phone.
Not only will it raise,,,should have
turning radius increase.
It too longer than i tought to disolve the rust, but it is gone, along with some chrome.... will rust again quickly. Thinking i should paint the insides of the spring.

Just about light to warm up enuff outside to put this on, in an hour or two... coffee is about done..

Ok, so, major look decision.

I installed the shorter crown. Painted with a mist of blue to mixup the coloring a tad.

With flash the suspension shows a little more...

I like the look before. And i like the liok after...

Now have to decide which way togo.

It shortened the wheelbase by about a foot... stood up at attention, or kicked back long ride...

Long 7 foot.

Versus 6.5 foot.

I like them both... decisions...

Short cage,
pros.
Seat post level, looks cool
Top of head tube same level as seat post
Tons of pedal clearance
Easeier steer
Forks dont hit frame.

Cons
Shorter,
Neck points up.
Guard almost level.
Crown not as cool.

Long cage
Pros
Neck points out.
Guard looks cool.
Makes the bike look like the long ride that it is...
Crown looks sweet!
Wife says it is sexier....

Cons
Pedals closer to ground
Chopper steer. (Lean turn)
Forks hit frame.

MC, that short spring with the upright stance really nails it for me. The long look is more radical, but doesn't look as 'put together', if you know what I mean?

I think your front end modification really bumped this build up a notch or two!
