I like the stripes enough that I'd Either get some vinyl ones made (instead of electric tape) or just mask off and spray it.

Drive it by a vinyl shop, I bet they could look at what you have and make it for under $20.

It's obviously not a car but here is my current rat-ride. You will see quite a few ratrods if you look back through this thread.
