Spring Carlisle 2012 (pic heavy)

Postby expjawa on Sat Apr 28, 2012 4:31 pm

Although the real bike collectors go to Ann Arbor this weekend, I was in Carlisle, PA for the Spring Carlisle swap meet. Car guys, of course, know about Carlisle - the city hosts a series of swap meet/car shows all season long. Most are brand-specific, but the season opening "Spring" event is non-denominational. Vendors bring out all sorts of stuff. In between the piles of old car parts, though, are a lot of bicycles (and tricycles).

My father & I walked it all Thursday and Friday. I took pictures of 1/3 to 1/2 of the bikes I saw. I can't really say why some compelled me to take a picture and others didn't, although ones with crazy price tags encouraged me to keep walking. I saw a riding condition Apple Krate w/ rear disc brake for $1800, a his/her pair of average, standard Stingrays for $2000, and a restorable Firestone Super Deluxe for $550. None of those were photographed, although I wish I'd shot the Firestone for research purposes. Anyway, here are the pictures.

Rollfast Space Flyer (was nice but $180 was more than I wanted to spend):

This was fun, just got back yesterday. That trike tandem was cool and I too was tempted by the rollfast. There was a bone shaker too but other than that those were all the noteworthy bikes.

It seems like every car show swap meet I find alot of overpriced bikes and few deals. I think most people selling are looking for a big fish!

Nice pics. I almost feel like I was there! Those last two pics look like they were taken in your basement. Did you buy those two? What is a TBD ballooner? Gary

Yes, I did. The "TBD ballooner" hasn't been identified, thus "TBD" - to be determined...

thanks for the pics. Do you remember what they were selling the Elgin tricycle for?
But then again, I could be totally wrong.

And probably for good reason, too. This just asks for WWIII breaking out.

Superb finds, though. All of them!
