Re: Kingfish254's Finds 4/16 Big Four Bike Score + $100

Read the part there "This note is not legal tender....."
It doesn't matter what I paid for it, it matters what it's WORTH. I never buy anything I will regret KEEPING.

It's also about 8" long by 3" wide. But it was still a cool find hidden away for the past 30 years!!

Was that some sort of promotional bill (anything on other side) or was it just play money?

It describes different US currency on the other side. No bike promo stuff. Just a cool item some kid stuck in his bike 30 years ago.

Tell the truth though, you got excited when you first uncovered it right?

I was excited to see anything under there, but because of the size, there was no mistaking it for a real bill.

Re: Kingfish254's Finds 4/18 Heineken Shifter

Postby kingfish254 on Wed Apr 18, 2012 7:34 pm

My Uncle (who has built more than a few street rods in his time) send me a surprise last week.
He had this Heineken tap sitting around his shop for a while. After seeing photos of BEER RUN beer bike from last year, he thought that I could find a use for this.

Years ago I contacted a friend of mine that was a bartender and asked about beer taps for use as a gear shift knob, later a package arrived with a note "Since you really don't drink, I thought this was perfect." It's a root beer tap, pretty cool, brass and wood, anyone doing a non-beer themed beer bike? haha

Re: Kingfish254's Finds 5/7 An American Picker in Bali

Postby kingfish254 on Mon May 07, 2012 8:11 am

I know that my guide in Bali thought I was crazy today, when I asked him to turn around to go back to a little roadside shop that had a bunch of bike frames stacked out front.

Image

Here is the local bike repair dude in a small village in central Bali.

Image

He let me jump into his junky workshop.

I was hoping to find some old Brooks like seats or big bike bells. Most of the parts where newer parts. There were some cool full cover chainguards, but I knew I couldn't pack those well. It was fun rumaging through his pile. I really felt like Frank on American Pickers.

Here is what I ended up with. A cool old 56T "TROPICAL" cottered chainring. What a perfect souvenir from Bali. This is going to hang in my shop.
Sorry, I couldn't come up with a nicer backdrop. This is the rice field view we have from our bedroom patio.

He also let me have this beat up motrbike tag
