3 speed wheel

Postby Voyager Al on Thu Jan 19, 2012 11:18 am

i need a 3 speed wheel, with matching front, in 26". I have a 3 speed Sturmey-Archer 3 speed I just bought,a pair of nice aluminum MTB wheels with stainless spokes. The hub was bad on the rear,so I tried to lace in the SA, but its hub was too large to use my spokes. Im fed up.
Make me a deal,or what have I got to sweeten the deal? Frames?I'd buy new spokes, but ya gotta be an engineer to figure out the spacing/dimensions to buy the right ones the FIRST time.GRRRRR

I have a lightweight Shimano 3-speed set. Front regreased and everything cleaned up real nice. I have a shifter that'd go with it too but it didn't lock into gear very well. I'd do 25$ plus actual shipping if you were interested.
It'll rub out.

Are you lacing them cross 3 . or cross 4 ? by changing the the pattern the spoke has further to travel , I've taken front wheel spokes and used them to lace a 3 spd :!:

I have a 3-speed sturmey archer rim, that works, and a matching front rim, they came off a 69' Schwinn Racer

here is the rear rim, would include front rim also.
Thank you

I PM'd ya. What size tires does a s-5 s-6 take? Will a 26 x 2.125 fit, or is it an oddball size?

S-5 or S-6 won't work for 2.125 unfortunately, fractional size.

so, 26 x 1 3/8?? Thats a bit narrow for this bike. What fractional wider size do they sell?
1 3/4 is max. forget it. balloon bike, wont look right with skinnies on it

so, aftyer months of messing with these wheels and the SA 3 speed, I have them DONE!!! After some input from dogdart, I used some nuts as spacers in the wheel, and spaced the nipples. The wheel is trued, and tires are mounted, and on the old Galaxie of mine. Gotta route the shifter, and take it for a cruise!.
