Old Schwinn "Bomber"

Postby tuga on Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:08 am

I've never been good on keeping up a build "diary" but will try with this one. Here's what I started with and a couple of phone pics from the paint guy for it's current state. Frame is a 1937 Schwinn Excelsior. Project will start sometime next year and I'll be updating with pics as I go.

The paint looks really good. Did you use automotive paints, or did you get that finish from spray paints?

Is that acrylic enamel, if it is or not what brand is it?
And did you use a clear coat?

Cool C-model! I'll be looking forward to your build.

This is my "Fleet" C-model if you haven't run across it. I think it's a '38.

Have seen your bikes before, they're beautiful and provide good inspiration, hope mine looks just as good when I'm done with it.

Paint is basecoat, clearcoat urethane.

Paint is Sherwin Williams Automotive ...

It was bare steel when TUGA brought it to me..

It was primed in self etching primer

Then I fixed the imperfections

Primed with urethane primer..p30a

Wet sanded

Then white based it with urethane u7000

Masked the white off

Sprayed the black base

Then finished it off with Sherwin Williams HPC15 urethane clear coat

That's beautiful. It's the perfect combination, can't wait to see the completed bike.

finally had some time to start on this one.

Tried fitting a campy headset using some reducers, but turns out the steer tube is too short  so I just used a generic chrome headset.
