Hey KBC,
Do you have the sellers name on that chainguard? I could use one for my 'secret' project (non-buildoff dream bike)

Any help, would be .....well...help.

Cheers,
Rob

So far I spent $55 on the whole project most of that ($45) was the chain guard.

I'm a big fan of all things green (except the algae in my fish tank)

If you're looking to get a 'modern' shade and not duplicate to classic Schwinn greens, take a look at Krylon's Hosta Green. Nice deep color, but has a 'creamy' look (that's the only word I could think of).

Cheers.

I'll have to look into that paint. I'm not sure what shade of green I should use.
More importantly the dealer I bought it from on ebay is bicyclebones. The item is called Schwinn Phantom Autocycle Hornet Bicycle Chainguard.

This is a cool bike, kind of what I'm going for. The price too but I was thinking more like $3500 for my bike.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0529942750
But I'm not sure why they're calling it a ten speed. It looks more like an internal 7 or 8.
F.Y.I. just because you have a bunch of useless info. and a magazine article doesn't mean you can have a higher price.

So you think I might have to "ccchhhhopp" the guard to fit?
Wow, I never thought I would use the word chop to describe a bike, that was hard to type. :)

Re: "StockRod6" future pic on Ebay link

Here's a better Ebay add. http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-1954-Schwinn-B ... 43a7996ecf
If you notice in my earlier posts, for listing colors I had to use a Schwinn American as an example because I've never found an image of a Black Jaguar. Then, one pops up on Ebay and it won't let me save a pic! :x
I guess I'll have to enjoy the add while it lasts...now I'm reconsidering the color of my Jag again. :|

very cool chain gaurds. I had the same one on my 1972/1973 5 speed SCHWINN. you will have to shave th back side of the top lip wear it meets the rear frame drop out. to make it clear the cear cluster. but if done right from the front side. you would never know looking at it that it was cut!

I also like a non-traditional green. Maybe metal flake? The pinstriping you drew looks good.

The chain guard jutting farther forward that the chain ring is what "works" for me.
Don't be afraid of the "chop"

Keep up the good work!

Update:
When I was disassembling the bike I had no intention of putting fenders on it. Then I decided to make this project but it was to late...
The bolt on the fender was stuck and I was fed up with it. So I cut it off. Which was STUPID now that I look back at it.
Here's a pic. Image
So yesterday a made a new mount from an old chainguard. Image
Since I don't have a welder I had to bring it to someone that does. And they drilled the fork for me because it took me over 30 minutes with my drill and I barley scratched it. Here's the pics. They did a nice job. :) Image and Image
Right now I'm cutting the fender so the brakes can mount then I'll put it together hopefully by tomorrow but no promises.
I still have to wait for my tube benders to ship in so I can make some truss rods. Then it'll go off for paint. And by "go off" I mean I'll paint it. 8)

I was thinking something like this would be a good green for the jag.
But............................. I'm not sure. :?:

It's defiantly a cool bike but not a color I would choose for a Schwinn Straightbar.

Re: "StockRod6" Together (sort of)

Postby KickBackCycles on Fri Jun 10, 2011 1:26 pm

Some of these parts aren't going to be on the bike like the chainguard and trussrods, I will have some but not these exact ones. The back fender isn't fully mounted and the rear wheel isn't on yet because I didn't want to deal with it (its hard). So here you go. Ones in color and the other is in b&w so you can see how it looks together with out the distraction of color. I think its looking like a Jag. 8)
