When you are done making that tank, can I hold it for just like a minute?

Looks great!

I still have quite a bit of peening to do on the flat area, so it will work harden and be pretty solid.

Thanks Fisch. Not sure about being a contender though........I don't think I'll be able to top last year's 10th place effort, but I'm not building this bike to try and place highly.
This will be the bike I've been wanting to build for a long time, and I'm really using the build-off as motivation to get it done.

I decided I didn't like the flat side of the the first tank half I built, and built another. I had to make another buck which was slightly bigger to allow for the shaping. The process was the same as the previous one, but this time I did some peening/stippling with a ball peen hammer to give it a bit more shape. I'm liking this version much more than the first. There's still a bit of peening and finishing to do before I'll be happy with it though. I'm going to leave the peened look, it hides a multitude of sins  .

Some other parts. I picked the cranks from a bargain bin at a bike shop and pulled the TruVativ BMX to Euro crank adaptor from a bike I don't ride.

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - Saddle slam!!

Postby bean on Wed May 11, 2011 4:17 am

I want the saddle to be as slammed as I can get it, so cut the seat tube down and made a new offset seatpost.... the offset is not huge, just enough to get the saddle back a little more and down nice and low. The seatpost will be welded to the frame and the saddle will bolted on as normal.

I also flipped the clamp on the Brooks saddle I'll be using to get it sitting as low as possible.

Still a bit of grinding and fitting to get it down more.

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - More tank progress

Postby bean on Fri May 13, 2011 1:15 am

I made the other tank half in my lunch break today. Still have to cut and fit together before I braze it......I just slipped one half inside the other to get an idea of how it will look and to work out the width I want.

Image

Trial fit. Just a little more shaping and peening to do before I'm happy with it.

Black and copper looks fantastic together. Though I am bias, I used to have a copper XY with black steelies and thin whites

The plan for this build is bare metal hewey, but if I don't like it when it goes together, black will be the next choice..........it does look purty :) .

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I'm enjoying fabricating the tank.........even though it's been 16 years since I've done any coppersmithing, the hand skills are starting to come back pretty quick........just like ridin' a bike  . I plan on making some copper grips as well.
