Re: Double Nickle vs. UdallcustomBikesOK, Dubby Nicky-
First- I don't know if you are watching the other micro-build off threads, but I am liking how they are planing to document the builds. We each have one post inside our thread that we cover our build in and just "edit" it with build updates. That way everyone in the peanut gallery can keep track of our greatness easier and we don't confuse them. Second- I need to see a little more smack talk out of you because you are making me feel like I am picking on the geeky kid in second grade. Unless you are the geeky kid in second grade and the smack isn't in your veins. If that is the case, I'll try not to make you cry when I build the World's most AWESOME bike in this build off. I am set to get my bike on Saturday and I'll get a starting pic up and begin my thread of greatness. Last edited by udallcustombikes on Tue Jan 12, 2010 9:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.

UdallcustomBikes Build![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I took a little time last night after work and tore my front wheel back down and added a little detail touch to the drum hub. Get a little balance between the front and rear. ![]() ![]() Getting the bike tonight so I will get it torn down this weekend and start looking at what parts will be added from the super stash. That had to be the easiest tear down on an older bike I have ever had a part of! Not a single rusted screw or nut, not even on the fender. Took an hour to tear it down. Now to clean up the frame. ![]() ![]() ![]() 1/17 UPDATE Spent the day building a battery box to run the motorcycle headlight that will be going on. I bought a box full of old license plates at a garage sale a few years ago and never found a use for them, until now. ![]() ![]() 1/19 UPDATE I spent the better part of the morning building a lunch box, I liked the way the battery box turned out so I wanted one to take to work with me. Also found a use for a couple of those pesky fender braces the mailman brought me. I beat them flat and used them as straps to mount the battery box to the rack. Only one left to find a use for. And that bobbed fender, the ones on the bike cleaned up nicely so I am going to use them, but that stubby one will find it's place in the world. 1/21 UPDATE Spent the last two days polishing the chrome and preping parts for paint. The smaller stuff I brought to work and media blasted on my lunch break. I just wish I could smuggle my frame and fork in... 1/22 UPDATE I got the frame and fork stripped and in primer (final color maybe). Just have to see how my secondary color looks with the brown. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 1/25 UPDATE Decided to do a mock up and see what happened while I wait to find some place to paint. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 1/29 UPDATE First coat is on the frame, fork and fender brace. ![]() 2/5 UPDATE Painting is done, now if I can make myself wait a week or so to let the paint cure before I go to put it back together. This is the hard part. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The lighting in the basement doesn't do the paint justice, gonna have to wait until the sun comes out to get better pics. Here's a couple pics of the Chainguard in it's finished state ![]() ![]() UPDATE Early 2/6 Too excited to wait for the paint to cure so I laced up my drum hub to the front rim. Straight and true with no scratches to the fresh paint. ![]() ![]() ![]() UPDATE 2/6 If you really knew me you would know that I can't leave all those parts sitting for a whole week. Reassembly has begun. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() From bobbed fender to head badge ![]() ![]() UPDATE 2/9 Roller on the Ground. ![]() ![]() UPDATE 2/12 First test ride today! Had some clearance issues with the rear fender, so off it came. The kickback wasn't shifting out of low at first, but after a few minutes it started shifting beautifully. Overall, it rides real nice and smooth. Still have a few small things to tie up before I can call it done. Here are a couple pics I snapped while out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by udallcustombikes on Fri Feb 12, 2010 7:33 pm, edited 16 times in total.

Re: Double Nickle vs. UdallcustomBikesI am planing on having the rims powdercoated, but pink never came up on the radar. I was thinking along the lines of Mopar Sublime or Sassy Grass Green and going with flat black or primer brown on the frame.

Re: Double Nickle vs. UdallcustomBikesOk so first dont think that im not gunna talk smack because its commin for sure after i see that so called "RAT BIKE" of yours....
Second your parts are on the way..... Third... my rat idea and yours rat idea is completely diffrent i think of rat as rusty wheels and flat paint job....but maybe your pink powder coated wheels will give it a good touch.

here my progress so far... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Double Nickle on Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:34 pm, edited 3 times in total.
Re: Double Nickle vs. UdallcustomBikesRusty wheels have their place, but I love the old model A's- rusty, crusty, flat paint and primer on the body but steel wheels in a vibrant color that really makes the whole thing pop.

Re: Double Nickle vs. UdallcustomBikesI REALLY should be asleep, but I have been lying in bed for the last two and a half hours thinking about this build and I can't shut the old noggin off. So I got up, fixed myself a stiff drink and decided to post. Set to pick the bike up Friday evening on my lunch break. The real fun begins this weekend. Time to check a few other threads and then hopefully this drink will put me under. And remember kids, drink and talk smack, at least not until the bike is home and some actual progress is made.
